Watermelon cutting tradition

Unread post by appfanjj » Mon Apr 04, 2022 9:22 am

Someone asked me about a watermelon cutting tradition at App that was supposedly a thing back in the 60s. Told him I would ask here. I've never heard of it. Anyone know about something like this? My curiosity is up now. Thanks!

Wayyyy before my time...but I assume some sort of drug reference? Surely it wasn't literally related to actual watermelons, right?

Only thing I/we ever did with watermelons at App was to cut a hole in them and pour in everclear and let soak. It wasn't a cutting tradition by any means but it certainly could get a lot of people messed up. Good times.

Well that makes a lot more sense. That's not near as creepy as what I thought you meant when I asked about your weekend plans and you said you were going to plug a watermelon.

There used to be a true watermelon fest during summer school back in the '60's.

Just free cold watermelon. That's been nearly 60 years. My memory is sketchy going that far back.
