Don’t know for certain the demand but my guess is this a degree that leads to a job and that’s awesome.

Unfortunately, these are jobs that don't pay well so it will be interesting.

There are some vet clinics that are starting to unionize around the country. I don't know lots of the details but it sounds like it might be the vet tech employee level pushing this through. That can push wages up for union and non-union alike but that is down the road a bit.

I suspect that Banfield vets is going to encourage employees and pay their tuition or some part of their tuition. I imagine with the scarcity of vets that they're going to try to develop a program where those with a bachelor's degree are in more management type positions and have more responsibility than your everyday vet tech and therefore they can rely on fewer actual veterinarians per location and therefore reduce their costs even further.

Full vet programs take so few people that it would be great of the BOE would let us have one on top of this. We could have a program that focuses more on wildlife instead of another domestic animal program. We could have great advertisements. NC, Vet capital of the south! Go to NC State to shove your hand up a cows butt or go to Boone to wrestle bears!

I do think the state could use another program beyond what NCSU has. A&T would make a logical choice as the other Ag school but the mountains are so overlooked it should go that way.

I hope there is financial benefit from Banfield for this. Banfield is among, if not the, worst ran clinic. All they care about is seeing more pets -- they couldn't care less about actually saving a pet.
The vets themselves are good people but have their hands tied on how many clients they have to see.

I did not mention that in my previous post but I have heard the same as well. Slate.com or Salon.com (I think it was one of the two) did an in-depth article on Banfield and corporate vet clinics. There is a Banfield in the PetSmate on Lawndale. I don't use that vet as there are 5 or 6 closer to me and no sense driving a cat farther than needed when it hates riding (or driving) in a car. They do seem to have decent business however.

They're the WalMart of vets.

I am pleased that we just got Vet Tech program up and running. Very grateful and proud of it as I have many pets and spend a lot of money with vets. The Vet techs deserve our thanks for their service. However, it would have been nice to have gotten the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program as well. This is problem App has that we aren't getting the high paying degree programs approved that provide graduates with premium earning power.

I have to agree, we need more professional post grad degrees offered at App.

It's not because of a lack of trying... the UNC BOG rejects basically any kind of attempt we make.
That's the reason we had to partner with Wake for the nursing program.
