Does anyone know the rationale for screwing with the meal plans this badly? I'd be pissed as a student too.

Somehow I survived the Bavarian Inn. The Gold Room was real nice though.

It sounds bad. I'm sure that it was to raise $$$$
Why on earth would the university want to encourage "all you can eat options"?????

This is what a lot of other colleges and universities do. Many have done it for quite some time.

Same type program that my daughter has at ECU. She seems to have no issues with it. You know what they say about change. Seems the Univ may have not handled well but the swipes system is not bad at all

Those Broyhill breakfast buffets were a quick way to burn through that meal plan money when I was in school.

My son is a sophomore living off campus this year and he does a lot of cooking which saves us lots of money. Last year he got killed with campus dining. When we moved him in and we're walking around we asked one of the dining managers if they were going to meal swipes and she said probably in 2022. A basic sandwich, side and drink was costing him probably $10 or more and there were many times where (due to staffing) some places were not even open. We had to purchase extra meal money twice towards the end of last year. Fortunately lots of young ladies don't use their money and you can buy it at .50 on the dollar.
Our oldest went to UNCW years ago and even then it was crazy. You basically give a young person an open-ended supply of meal money.

My son lives off campus and uses App Cash instead of a meal plan. It's a way better option as it can be used anywhere on campus, not just for meals, and is refundable when he graduates. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be an option for on campus.

I know personally I would have saved a ton of money if this was an option when I was on campus. All of my meals a la carte were like 20 bucks. Granted, I ate like a horse then. It has its faults but sounds like it could be cheaper for heavy eaters, not so much for the ones that eat like birds.

Regardless of the format of the plan, I think we can all agree that the hot dogs at Cascades were absolutely disgusting. Sandwiches weren't so bad and definitely cheaper than going upstairs to McAlister's, but those hot dogs (pause)...yuck

Same here. It was quiet, not crowded, the service was better than most restaurants at the time, and the steaks were great, jus very small. It was married couple date night as you said.
