New college and departmental logos

Unread post by T-Dog » Mon Aug 07, 2023 8:00 pm

Unless I missed something, it seems like App has redone some of its college and department branding.

For those who are freaking out right now, this IS NOT changing the main logos or athletics logos. Just for the colleges and departments.

The spelled out Appalachian State logo with the bird dotting the i is gone. Here's another example. Below is what shows up now.

I also noticed that the APPSTATE logo is showing up a lot on the department/college webpages.

Main link to logos page --> https://uc.appstate.edu/brand-and-ident ... uide/logos

Link to the new department/college branding --> https://uc.appstate.edu/brand-and-ident ... /titlemark

I know some of y'all are academically connected, so I wonder if the below logos were workshopped or vetted internally through a group outside of university administration?

Are we Philadelphia? The Philadelphia of the mountains? The mountain Liberties? Is someone ringing our bell? Is this because Bell South had terrible service in Boone?

I hope this one doesn't last. It just doesn't fit. That bell is not that iconic on campus. Just put a silhouette of Yosef on Howards Knob.

So we're going to feature a bell that has a fake story attached to it?
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Oooooh, Times Roman and Georgia Fonts...we have two graphic design programs at the school, anyone in either of those could have come up with something with a little more originality to it.

/yes I'm in from one of them

Looks like. A bell that no one remembers, no one touched it before exams and don’t even know where it is now. And I’m sure the design School could have done better. Oh well, since we can’t seem to maintain tradition we’ll just make it up.

Not doing it for me. There are so many things actually associated with the school that it seems really odd to be using an image of a fake story to represent us.

Another in a long and growing list of swings and misses.

How about a mountain with Appalachian across the base or top?

Someone went to freelogocreator.com and picked the first thing that came up.

The bell is completely irrelevant to campus. The "mountains" are foothills at best. The font is bad. Just....ugh.

Terrible. Probably think it works for the departments and schools. I'm guessing they also had a discussion about Appalachian vs App State, which is what the whole re-branding is going towards, and someone thought Appalachian sounded smarter...

If App were to replace the bell logo this afternoon and tomorrow someone would say they miss the bell logo.

Remember, the Victory Yosef is just a reworked helmet logo from the 70's.

The bird will be back someday. I can remember when the bird flew into the logo in the late 80's.

What we need to do now is have a giant bell like the AC/DC Hell's Bell in Kidd Brewer. Ring the bell on 3rd and 4th down that plays the note A...

The bell on 3rd and 4th down is over done. Id rather have a pack of hound dogs howling on 4th down than a bell. We have to save the rifle shots for touchdowns and wins.

I found the next logo you'll need.

This reminds me of the Bork/Jane Helm era. I’m not mad (though it needs to be changed), as this is a rare occurrence nowadays. Twenty-plus years ago, this shit happened on the regular.

The bird was dumb, but this isn't any better.

The departmental logos are so uninspired, if they paid someone for that they need to get their money back.

It's been around longer than that. I started at App in the Fall of 1980 and the free t-shirt they gave out at freshman orientation had that logo....and it was burgandy. Never did understand that. I guess academics was trying to separate from athletics.
