GoASU.com Becomes appstatesports.com on Monday

BOONE, N.C. — After being known as GoASU.com since its inception more than a decade ago, the official website of Appalachian State University athletics will be rebranded as appstatesports.com on Monday, July 15, in conjunction with its coverage of Sun Belt Conference Football Media Day in New Orleans.

appstatesports.com will feature the same extensive coverage of Appalachian State athletics as before, including all of the latest news, live video broadcasts of Mountaineer games and special events, exclusive photos and much, much more.

Appalachian athletics' official online video outlet, formerly known as GoASU TV, will also rebrand as App State TV, beginning with a full report from the Superdome on Monday.

My App Fan, which allows fans to login to their Yosef Club, tickets and App State TV accounts, will be unaffected by the change. Existing subscriptions to GoASU TV will carry over to App State TV with no action necessary by subscribers.

The GoASU.com URL and all related links (e.g. GoASU.com/yosefclub, GoASU.com/tickets, GoASU.com/football) will remain functional for the time being to allow visitors leeway to update bookmarks, etc. to appstatesports.com. Additionally, the suffixes for related links will remain the same with the appstatesports.com URL (e.g. appstatesports.com/yosefclub, appstatesports.com/tickets, appstatesports.com/football).

The new URL is part of a larger rebranding effort outlined in Appalachian State athletics' strategic plan, which calls for the discontinuation of "ASU" and the official addition of the recognizable "App State" moniker as a secondary reference for Appalachian State athletics.

Damn shame that NeuLion isn't being discarded along with the GoASU address.

Ridiculous. ASU is a heck of a lot shorter.
They should not sell the GoASU.com site....someone will come to their senses one day when we have the people in position to do so.

There are many, many ASU's but only one App State.

There are quite a few ASUs, like Arizona State, Albany State, and most important to us, Arkansas State, so I am certain that our rebranding to App State has everything to do with that. The ACC wouldn't want to VTs, so why would the Sun Belt want two ASUs?

App State is our brand. Good move.

Excellent move! ASU is too generic. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of ASUs: Arizona State, Arkansas State, Alabama State, Albany State, Angelo State, Alcorn State, Athens Sate, and Augusta State. Every one of them is ASU to their fans and to their locality. There is only one App State. This is a great marketing move.

It's hard for me not to say ASU to, but outside of NC ASU is Arizona State University, Arizona is even http://www.asu.edu.

With an already established ASU in the SBC, it makes sense for us to be App State rather than an ASU. I actually prefer App State over the generic ASU, regardless of our conference affiliation.

The offical website for the university is appstate.edu so I don't have any issues with the name change. Sets us apart and besides, most people call us App anyway, or Appy, which will get someone punched if I'm close enough)

They do now after a score. In the South endzone they carry 5 flags spelling "STATE" and when they run back across the endzone it spells "ETATS." I always preferred "ASU" and then "USA" on the way back.

Ouch. One of my favorite signs is "Tattoos while you wait".

The new page header is "Appalachian State MOUNTAINEERS". Me likey, but on the face page without having to scroll, you would think the new name APPSTATESPORTS.COM would appear prominently placed as GoASU was before. Many fans are going to be clueless of the change and when the redirect is turned off they may have to search awhile to find it. Maybe I'm just being picky .

Good move. Moving out of the shadows of the Blue Ridge so we have to make a distinction between us and those other ASU's.

App State > ASU
Penn State > PSU
