That should make open house this weekend interesting.

The recommended detour in that article is hilarious:

“From Linville:

Take U.S. 221 South to Pineola
Take N.C. 181 South to Morganton
Take U.S. 64 East/N.C. 18 North to Lenoir
Take N.C. 18 South to N.C. 16 North
Take N.C. 16 North to U.S. 421 North in Wilkesboro
Take U.S. 421 North to U.S. 321 in Boone”

Might as well just park and walk the rest of the way.

You can get to the coast from Boone faster than getting from Linville to Boone 😂😂😂

What a shame these rockslides didn't happen in early June when every 80-year old Floridian is trying to get up here for the summer.

Another way from Linville

Take 105N to Shulls Mill Road, it should be open there, not sure though.
Take Shulls Mill Road toward Blowing Rock (it's curvy). Exit Blue Ridge Parkway, north.
Exit Bamboo Road to Boone.

Just off the top of my head. There are other ways from Shulls Mill Road too.

Foscoe has a road that takes you from 105 to Price Park. A little further south of Shulls Mill.

True. Also, you could take Snaggy Mountain Road off of Shulls Mill Road and come out at the 105 extension (at the Boone city limits), a couple miles north of the construction area. Or, take Trout Lake Road off of Shulls Mill Road and it will take you into Boone at the Winkler's Creek/Boone Mall area. By the way, there is a zip lining place down that way, fun. As you can tell, I attended App when we had to go to Blowing Rock to party. :)

I didn't read the whole post, but wouldn't "Blue Ridge Parkway" be the easiest detour???

Unless you're driving a commercial vehicle.

I used to take that road (Trout Lake) at times in the mid-90's. From my memory, it wasn't fully paved (unless I'm thinking of another road).

All kidding aside, traffic wasn't bad considering it's shoulder season in the High Country.
The good news is we have a variety of detour options when (not if) this happens again.

Not if parts of the parkway are still closed....
