Re: Hold on to your hats ….
While Everts has done plenty of positives for App State, the list of recent controversies was significant. The tunnels were very public, but also the Pride Week renaming and firing of LGBTQ faculty, and the planned ASU 911 Center was widely condemned by the town, county and even the BOT. Plus she's lived in Hickory for the last year.
Some people never liked Everts because she wasn't Peacock and/or she was an outsider. But doing things like not giving Peacock Chancellor Emeritus status or even attending his memorial service didn't help.

Re: Hold on to your hats ….
I have not heard that and I do not want it to start, which is why I want to see athletics in its proper place. I give a small amount to Yosef Club each year but I always give at least $1 to the academic side of the foundation. That is a pretty good indicator of how I feel about it all. It is both symbolic and yet more than symbolism that I make a deliberate choice to give more to the academic side. Athletics can be a benefit but it can also be a drag on the university and non-scholly students that are forking over student fees each year.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:46 amHave you heard reason to believe that has been happening? Beyond things like athletes taking easy classes, missing a lot of classes, etc., that has always happened at App and probably everywhere else?McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:13 amWe need someone that puts athletics in its proper place. I do not want someone that allows UNC-CHeat type stuff going on. We are better than that. I do like to see athletics used as a front door for marketing, but not at the expense of academics.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:07 amJust got email newsletter where she informed UNC System President she is stepping down! She was forced to do this but they let her save face here. I had heard this would happen in May or June so this is an early gift!
Now we need to get a pro athletics chancellor. I am sure Shawn Clark celebrated big time. His job security just got better.

I don't envy anyone stepping into this role and trying to juggle athletics/academics on our budget.

Genuine question, because I truly have no idea. How much do say so do ‘our’ people having this hiring?

This may not be PC but I don’t want a Woke Chancellor like Harvard. I do want proper balance between academics and athletics. Students need to feel safe while attending App State and focus on preparing themselves for professional life in the real world. I want a leader that provides all that and doesn’t wilt in the line of fire.

I do think the phrase “careful what you wish for” can be applied here.appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:58 pmExactly what I thought, and why I am not cutting backflips like some folks are.T-Dog wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:42 pmThe BOT can make a recommendation to the UNC BOG, but that's it.AppinVA wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:30 pmHopefully more than what I fear.appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:22 pmGenuine question, because I truly have no idea. Agree 1000%. No woke BS. No DEI hire just for DEI’s sake.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:26 pmThis may not be PC but I don’t want a Woke Chancellor like Harvard. I expect the BOT to make sure we get someone who puts athletics on equal footing with academics.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:07 amJust got email newsletter where she informed UNC System President she is stepping down. Re: Hold on to your hats ….
With those who have more knowledge on the subject, why were people so upset with Everts? Any specifics?
Obviously she wasn't as visual as Peacock was at Athletic events, many of us loved that about Peacock over the years. But from an athletics perspective, for what other reasons is Everts being gone a good thing? Quick list of reasons for those of us not in the loop?

Re: Hold on to your hats ….
Sad that you have to almost apologize for saying this. Spot on though. We need a solid, middle of the road hire who can stand up to the BS from either side. I felt like Everts accomplished that and the hate was universal. As to the tunnel, in my day it wasn't bad. Today's culture could easily have taken it to the extreme. I'm not on campus so I don't know. Suspect the loudest complainers are not on campus any longer either.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:26 pmThis may not be PC but I don’t want a Woke Chancellor like Harvard. Am I the only person who couldn’t care less about the free expression tunnels? Feels like I’m in the minority, but I truly don’t care one way or the other. If we are being honest, they could be an eyesore at times.

I had no problem with her. Found her engaging and down to earth. Any App Chancellor is hamstrung buy the Piedmont bias.....

Almost none. The Trustees and even Governors have very little say. This is in the hands of the system office. Peter Hans makes the call.appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:22 pmGenuine question, because I truly have no idea. How much do say so do ‘our’ people having this hiring?
