We have been traveling to Boone for several years now and in the last two to three years it seems as though some of the motels aren't kept up as well as they used to be. Is this just us getting more particular because we are getting older or is it actually happening? We will continue to travel to Boone, but we curious as to if anyone else feels the same way.

We used to stay at the Hampton Inn (now Inn Place) until its upkeep was totally pushed aside. The last time I stayed there, it took 4 tries before the front desk could give me a key card that worked (made me feel so very secure  )

We now stay at the Courtyard. It's very well maintained ... for now.

Actually, if you couldn't get in the crooks probably couldn't either.

I personally will miss the old Broyhill Inn on campus. It was so nice to be able to stay there and just walk down the hill to campus or Boone. It had become rather old and outdated but holds some great memories.

The Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock will likely be the new hangout...just cost a lot more than the Courtyard or Fairfield.

We last stayed at the Hampton a couple of years ago. I regret the Hampton is no longer a Hampton, I have mostly Hilton Honors points. I would love to try the Courtyard, but it's too expensive and I can't seem to build up enough Marriott points. This year we ar going to try to rent a cabin with friends for at least one game. We have also stayed at the HI Express in BR, it was ok. Just wish there was more to choose from in Boone.

I've noticed this also. In particular we used to really like the Holiday Inn. It's fallen off some, but we'll still stay there. Personally I like the Fairfield, though it's a bit pricey.
