Trustees are voting Thursday and Friday to demo Legends, which has been condemned since Helene. According to the materials, the cost to repair is more than the building's worth. If the UNC Board of Governors approves in January, demolition is to start in April.

Man I worked at Legends as a bouncer back in the day...... Saw a lot of great bands come through there. Always had a blast and loved working there.

Had some good times there. Saw Joan Jett in the mid 80s.

I’ve always loved parking/tailgating at Legends, the walk thru campus to/from KBS, ease of in/out, along with the nostalgia to boot. What’s everybody thinking?… More parking spaces, some new building, nothing, or what?

I had some great times at Legends. I met a lot of my future wives at Legends....they just didn't get to the finish line with me. Truth is I was very disappointed when they changed the name from H'appys. THANK GOD THERE WERE NO PHONES THEN TO VIDEO EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I was at that same Joan Jett concert, it was amazing to see her in such a small setting. I still tell people it was my favorite concert.
She was promoting the movie Light of Day, starring her and Michael J Fox.

Lived in Huey dorm for two years and that original place - called Appy’s maybe opened up. If memory serves it was pretty fun especially during Watauga County prohibition days.

Some of the best bands to come through were Breakfast Club and Fighting Gravity. So many bands...... The school had us Legends workers work security for the Widespread Panic show at Varsity Gym. That was a WILD night.

Aw man! I hope the school decides to rebuild something at least similar in its place. There aren't a ton of good music venues in Boone, and I had a lot of great memories at Legends.

More revenue streams, more jobs, more tax basis. Tough to see Legends go, but that’s a great site for development. Not many of those left around town. Will be curious how that works sitting right next to a dorm though.

The legends building is on .75 acres
The parking lot is a separate plot of land at .57 acres.
It would be very difficult to put a building the size of a small hotel there bumped up right behind the car garage.
Edit...here is the link to the GIS. Zoom in on Boone and add the 2022 Aerial overlay. You can click on individual plots of land for information.

Same, for all those reasons. Plus I lived in the apartments right behind it (Steeplechase) my senior year. Even better since they opened up the campus lot up the hill for Legends permits.

The building can fit, probably a smaller boutique size, but the question is, how do you park it? Too expensive for underground parking. Not dense enough for no parking like the Horton. Too costly for a deck. Maybe they’ll do offsite parking and force you to valet. Could see them taking +-20 spots from the Holmes Deck/nearby lot for Valet at this hotel.

That building has been on the chopping block for years. Nice flat lot and an underutilized building, the flood was just the final nail in the coffin.

Don't forget the Connells, I'm sure you saw them there as well based on the other bands you saw.

The Horton has parking, it is just across Howard street behind that apartment complex. Short walk but there is assigned parking.
