Prof. Harry Davis on the Economy

Unread post by Maddog1956 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 11:11 am

It's good to know that at least one of the professors I had is still teaching. I had Dr. Davis for a Grad finance class and he was on my MBA orals board. I still remember he asked me to explain what T. Boone Pickens saw in a stock that he just purchased a ton of. When's the last time T. Boone was in the news?

Thanks for posting. I had Dr. Davis for a finance class back in the late 70's. I liked him and did pretty well in the class. I seem to remember him being a big environmentalist in those days and particularly interested in blocking the daming of the New River which was a big news topic at the time.

He's living in Charlotte most of the time these days. I see him from time to time and we compare notes... Class guy.

Have the misfortune to live in Oklahoma (work). T Boone is constantly in the news here as he is a HUGE donor to Oklahoma State U. athletics. Wish ASU had a sugar daddy like Mr. Pickens.

I had to check to see if he was still living! I do seem to remember that he was trying to raise funds for a wind farm or something. Yeah APP doesn't have too many or none of the really big ones.

problem with the "mega donors" is they are not making donations out of the goodness of their hearts, most want something in return, mainly power and control over the University. I remember many years ago one of the biggest donors at Auburn had complete control over almost every aspect of the University, he was chairman of the board, and nothing significent happened without his approval, I think this went on for like 25 years. I would love App to have big donors, but I would be worried about having a Pickens type guy making donations, they almost always want alot in return.
