Not to downplay this moment, and hopefully this changes as her life progresses (marriage, her own children, and other life events) but she stated on Facebook herself, "Just got accepted to Appalachian State! Best moment ever!"

Re: Acceptance Letter
Traditionally it seems that many of my students and my wife's students would get word just before winter break for public schools. With the PowerSchool transition (fiasco is more like it really) and difficult process of electronic movement of student files to universities I think that delayed the admission process some. So Christmas comes and goes. Then we are told by 15 January, and no word, so I then hear 25 January is the deadline, and I was figuring today would not be the day to hear from App, but I kept checking mail, just in case.TheMoody1 wrote:Congrats. My daughter was no slam-dunk case in my view. She had good credentials as far as school involvement, course load, and class rank but her SATs and ACT are not helping Apps average. We will leave it at that. And her high school is not the most competitive school, and I know that as I teach there. That is not to be negative where I work and send my kids to high school, but that is the reality, so her class rank, while good even great, does not relate to the same class rank of a high-flying school. I know that. I was a bit concerned. Which is one reason I am SO excited for her. Though I also knew if App had a chance to see the fine young lady that is a hard worker in the classroom they would want her as a student, but getting that point across is not always easy. Seeing test scores is easy and lots of fine students don't always show what they have with those types of tests.
Congratulations on your son being admitted as well. Some years MMBers post on here about a family member getting in and some years it is more quite. This has been a quite year so far. I am glad you did not say anything before Christmas. I was putting my hope in the process just being delayed this year, and had I known some were getting in already I would have been more concerned. But that is me being selfish about the process. You had more restraint than I did in stating the good news.

I didn't post anything because he still hasn't decided 100% where he wants to attend. The out of state tuition at App makes Clemson and USC look better than they used to.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:You had more restraint than I did in stating the good news.

Re: Acceptance Letter
I can understand that. App is my daughter's #1 choice but she did apply and get accepted at Western. I doubt she will be getting any money from Western in amounts that would not be available at App, but if that were to happen I would not be upset nor expect here to pass up lots of money just to be at App. I am just proud she was accepted but I do think I will be taking in more football games in Boone next year than I have in a long time.TheMoody1 wrote:I didn't post anything because he still hasn't decided 100% where he wants to attend. We never bothered with out of state nor private. Had that been the only option I am sure I would had advised her to save some (lots of really) money and done a community college and transfer in to App.

Why would she want to go to Western? She got into college.

Re: Acceptance Letter
Having had two daughters enter Western and APP the same year I think it safe to say that your daughter might get a little more for going to Western (I'm not sure why, their cost is a little lower), but it will be a small amount. I'm thinking in the $500 - $700 range, but that's still a guess.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: I can understand that. App is my daughter's #1 choice but she did apply and get accepted at Western. Re: Acceptance Letter
My daughter went to App as an out of state student with the intentions of establishing residency. It takes time but she was able to be in state the last year and a half of her time at App. Just know that it is an option.

Re: Acceptance Letter
My favorite nephew got his western letter last week. I pretended to be happy for him but the bile was rising in my throat. It is funny that he has App stickers all over his car and constantly wears App apparel. I have been bringing him to games since he was in elementary school and had him indoctrinated but he did not have the SAT to get in. I have to accept western in this case.AppinVA wrote:Why would she want to go to Western? She got into college.

Re: Acceptance Letter
My sympathies. He can always transfer in after a year or two. I kid, but Western isn't really a bad school at all. There are worse schools and locales out there.appbio91 wrote:My favorite nephew got his western letter last week. I pretended to be happy for him but the bile was rising in my throat.
