The Appalachian family was sad to hear of the passing of 107-year old Lula Browning Craig '29. Chancellor Peacock and Vice Chancellor Susan Pettyjohn received a kind message from her grandaughter, Betty Ballew-Levy '92:

It is with heavy heart that I inform you that my Grandmother, Lula Craig, passed away yesterday at the age of 107.

Mrs. Craig, being the oldest graduate of ASU, loved Boone NC and treasured the memories she made while attending the University. Over the years, she would proudly reminisce of your great school, and applied the knowledge she learned to everyday life. She was a mentor to many, and her strong will and character was no doubt in part, a result of the teachings she received while at Appalachian State.

Ken and Susan, words cannot express how grateful our family is that you travelled from Boone to her home in Nebo, NC in order to meet her. She often spoke of that day, and kept that memory close to her heart until her final days.

We are all saddened for our loss, but appreciative that we had so many wonderful years with her. The wisdom that she acquired while at ASU, and have since passed on, will live on in us.

Lula was the oldest living Appalachian attendee.

Sincerest of condolences to this fine Mountaineer family for the loss of this wise and strong lady.
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!
