Gonna miss the SoCon.
It's been really, really good for ASU.
I agree it's time to move on but I'll miss playing some of the teams in it.

I'll miss Georgia Southern. Oh wait, I won't.

I think my only regret is leaving with Furman having an "all-time" edge on us football and in several other sports. They were tough on us in the 70s and early to mid 80s. They made it e-z to
hate purple!

I have mixed feelings about leaving the SmallCon. One part of me wants to thank them for giving us birth in D 1 athletics. For 95% of us the SOCon is all we know. We entered the conference in 1972. I set foot in God's Country two years later, when we were becoming competitive in D 1. Dozens of championships, conference and national later we move back to big boy athletics. So thanks SoCon for birthing us.
Now onto the Sun Belt. It only took us three years to beat teams like WFU and S Car once we got into the SoCon. Here's to Yosef Kicking Butt in the Belt within a similar time frame!!
App State's future athletically and academically is "so bright we all need to wear shades!!!!"
More than ever PROUD TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!!!!

I'll miss being able to drive to all away games in the Southern Conference. That won't be possible for me in the SunBelt. The only venue I haven't been fortunate enough to travel to has been Georgia Southern.

My personal sacrifice of missing some games is well worth the price to give us an opportunity to make this an overall better university.
Thanks to the SoCon for believing is us 40 years ago, we gave our ALL and represented the conference well. Goodbye.

The loss of drive able away games should make the home game tickets more valuable. Get those Season Tickets while you can!

Our departure is celebrated by other schools as well. Particularly by our jealous sister school:

Pathetic.
So ends one of the least competitive "rivalries" of all time.

So non-competitive as to be laughable in football. I hope our move up will put some distance between us and them in basketball and baseball where the rivalry has been very competitive.

I completed the ceremonial removal of the SoCon app from my phone.
Felt good.

I was more of a SoCon fan during the time I was in school. I graduated in 75 and enjoyed conference games against ECU, Richmond and W&M. After they left and the conference replaced them with ccc, ETSU and UTC I felt the conference was watered down. Then in 82 or 83, can't remember, when we were relegated to 1-AA that again was a depressing moment in ASU athletics for me. I realize a lot of you only know 1-AA and playing conference games against the current members. The announcement of the move to FBS has come full circle for me. I've waited a generation to get back to the place I was when I graduated. I have always missed the old SoCon, but am glad to distance ourselves from the present.

Well, you have to admit--they
are the experts when it comes to jealous sisters.
