New WFNZ Host
WFNZ has a new afternoon drive time host. Finally rid of the plague that was Marc James.

New guy is an App grad who has been at IMG for a while. I know AM 730 will be a big spot for us now but this certainly maybe better for us at the other station

Re: New WFNZ Host
Marc-with-a-c James was the perfect storm of bad sports radio:
Abrasive personality.
Little institutional knowledge beyond football and basketball (I'm being generous).
Foul mouth with limited vocabulary and insights.
To my knowledge no ASU coach or official has ever appeared on his show. There's a reason for that. We have higher standards. Here's hoping he doesn't resurface in the southeast.

Coach Satt was on their college football season preview series last summer, but that was when Zarzour was still on the showAppGrad78 wrote:

Re: New WFNZ Host
When Zarzour left I felt there was no way James could succeed with the show in his hands - as mentioned, just not enough depth nor over-all knowledge - maybe I will tune in again occasionally since they have an APP guy ---

I'm a little surprised he crashed and burned as quickly as he did. Then again, I'm not.WVAPPeer wrote:When Zarzour left I felt there was no way James could succeed with the show in his hands - as mentioned, just not enough depth nor over-all knowledge - maybe I will tune in again occasionally since they have an APP guy ---

Anyone but Brett Jensen also. That's an anti-App media member if I've ever seen one.
Re: New WFNZ Host
Never heard of the guy even though by the sound of it he was at App the same time I was. Disappointing hire for DJ Stout.

Marc James called us "crappalachian" one day and I sent the station a blistering letter...along with an email telling James if I ever saw him in person I'd knock the "crap" outta him. Also Jensen is a hack who loved to bash Armanti at every turn. He is beyond arrogant with little perspective. I hope Kroeger does well.

I'm pretty sure he got a show in Atlanta. I am looking forward to a new voice in Charlotte.AppGrad78 wrote: Here's hoping he doesn't resurface in the southeast.

They have cancelled the whole program in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill sports market. Packer won't ever return but he was on Mt. Olympus compared to the guys who followed him.

I agree. Hiring Marc James (not his real last name) was very disappointing. Luckily, that wrong has been corrected. Chris Kroeger seems like he will be a good one.IGgreer wrote:Never heard of the guy even though by the sound of it he was at App the same time I was. Disappointing hire for DJ Stout.

Re: New WFNZ Host
Anyone who understands radio would know that going from solo host to co-host on a station owned by the same group is not a step up.
In his time at WFNZ ratings went down. In the latest report 0.9. Marc & Taylor did the impossible, made me miss the Packman

Are you familiar with Kroeger's work? Also what is wrong with Marc James not using his real name? Chris Kelly (Rock 92 & App St Alum) does the same thing...ASUMountaineer wrote:I agree. Re: New WFNZ Host
Listen to the 2GNC show weekly on Rock 92 but Chris Kelly is a self proclaimed Tar Heel fan! I missed the show they did up in Boone a week or so ago. Sucks he doesn't claim App and try to promote his alma mater more but I understand he's catering to his listening audience. Wonder who he pulls for when App plays the Heels???

Re: New WFNZ Host
Mark Yarborough on WFNZ is another one. He claims App as his alma mater, but makes it clear that he is an NC State fan. It is like he considers us a junior college or something. I'll never forget the day after we went FBS, he spent the entire show saying, "Be careful what you wish for" and mocking us for wanting to move up. I guess our moving up just makes it more awkward for him as a State fan.

Does this happenmoonshine wrote: Wonder who he pulls for when App plays the Heels???

Oh Yeah. Once every hundred years or so....kinda like a once in a lifetime event.

Re: New WFNZ Host
It makes a lot of sense to me.
I was in Charlotte for five years. It didn't sound like anybody on that station had any allegiance to Charlotte or North Carolina. That's not required to host a sports show, but it doesn't help when the hosts want to talk Alabama, Miami, the Ravens, San Francisco Giants, or any other team that I remember hearing about a lot.
Radio needs these young, hungry guys.

Re: New WFNZ Host
Now now Moose, they did manage to play App in baseball twice back in '09 and threw Capel a bone in 2011. Although I'm sure their fans ran home to wash the filth off after having to endure a few games with the Mountaineers.firemoose wrote: Does this happen![]()

I worked in radio in Wilmington and Raleigh. Used my real name at one and not at the other.
