I am in Boone for Freshman Orientation. The head of IT made a mention that Raley Hall would soon be named Peacock Hall in a few weeks. Trustees are also meeting today and tomorrow with Peacock's last official day Monday so this would make some sense.

This was actually announced some months ago with Thelma Raley's family being in support of the change. I believe I read at one time that the change was contingent on successful completion of the Campaign for Appalachian.

You've got 3 days to make a contribution to the Campaign for Appalachian (any fund is fine ... Including Yosef). Remember that if you pledge $10 a month for the next 3 years, the entire $360 counts towards funds raised under Chancellor Peacock's leadership.

I'm here at Raley. The program with the BoT and other dignitaries is going on inside right now. Then everyone will come outside and reveal the signage. Typical Boone summer afternoon with rain possible any second.

I thought I had a scope on this. :) But after you posted your remarks I remember this being mentioned on MMB.

The new chancellor, Dr. Everts, officially takes office on Tuesday. She will be participating in a lot of the Sun Belt Day events throughout Boone.

I love Peacock as much as the next person, but I think it's all very cool timing. We will all be able to pinpoint the day that Appalachian State changed tremendously: July 1, 2014.

This is big day, a la that day in November 2004, when the Roach was reassigned.

As far as the Raley family support for the change they didn't have much choice. According to a very reliable source in the CoB Thelma Raley pledged $$$ for her name on the building but CoB never in all these years received a single dime from Raley family.
