App State Sports on Roku?

Unread post by AtlAppMan » Thu Aug 07, 2014 5:18 pm

Anybody figured out how to view AppStateSports.com video material on Roku?

I have a Roku 3 and it works great on ESPN3 feeding into my TV via HDMI. I am ready for the football season with all SBC away games guaranteed on some form of ESPN feed. Now I just would like all the video materials on AppStateSports to feed into Roku so I don't have to pull my laptop out and plug it into my TV just to watch the Fall Camp, coach's interviews, etc.

I don't know about Roku, but I am able to stream ASUTV and ESPN3 to my flat screen with Chromecast and it only cost $35.

Chromecast is basically a browser in your TV, right? If so, that is why you can navigate to AppStateSports and run the video.

Roku supports Youtube channel but don't know about it having browser navigation ability. It works off concept more like a tablet App. I think we need an App to support our web site. Roku is like most other TV's that support streaming. However, I am clearly not expert here since I am asking for advice.

I also have a ROKU 3. I did some looking the other day and it said there were a couple of browser apps listed and others being designed. I needed to do some more research before trusting the apps that are out but I'll let you know what I find out.

I noticed that Univ of South Alabama has a channel. We need some techie student that has too much time on their hands to create an AppStateSports streaming app for us.

As a techie, I've actually looked into it. Problem is, we need App and Neulion's permissions to do it...

Makes sense, I wonder if David Jackson could get App and Neulion to agree? I don't see any downside. If you have access now via a computer you should be able to access same content via streaming. It is future of content delivery. Isn't that what Sun Belt is banking on?

I get the APP TV program running on my pc then I just
chromecast it to my tv. The chromecast looks like a flash drive and just plugs into a USB port on the tv.

We should refer to this as the App TV App
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

As far as I can tell, no USB port on my TV. Can you plug it into the DVD player and do the same thing?

The ChromeCast actually plugs into an HDMI port -- not USB.

You're going to try to use Chromecast to show AppStateTV from your browser onto a TV, you're probably going to be disappointed.

But, if you have ESPN3, Chromecast would be a great and cheap way to make it happen. Chromecast works a lot better with apps (Netflix, etc) than it does with browsers (at least in my experience).

It would make sense for NeuLion to work out a deal with Chromecast/Roku/etc. You can also connect your laptop to your TV if you have the right cable.
