How do you repond to this?
From Facebook on a public forum this, from former athlete Kinney Baughman:
I hope everyone is happy now. We've got a million bucks in the bank and our football program was embarrassed on the national stage. Thanks, Charlie Cobb, for one last finger in the eye of Appstate on your way out the door. This was a boneheaded move on Appstate's part that has done nothing but tarnish the image of our school in the eyes of the sports world ... all because of money ... the root of all evil. Add to this our mad dash move to the BCS precisely *because* of the magical 2007 game and we look like a backwoods school that got too big for its britches. Sure we shone for one Saturday afternoon 7 years ago and had 3 extraordinary seasons in a row. Anyone who has even a passing knowledge of the world of sports today knows that level of success is unsustainable. We should have enjoyed our day in the sun for what it was. And continued in the Southern Conference as *the* premier athletic program in one of the oldest and most respected conferences in the country.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

How to respond. Just don't.scatman77 wrote:From Facebook on a public forum this, from former athlete Kinney Baughman:

But if one must. Here is my take on the last bit about seeming to want to stay in the SoCon. My thoughts start to ramble near the end. Sorry.
With few exceptions most colleges have a sport that is THEIR sport. App has had success with T&F and XC and other sports at times but the one sport above all has been Football year in and year out. We all know that. But with all of that said we had been there and done that so much in the SoCon that it was time to move on to bigger and better. How many Commish Cups must we win to prove that point? How many Germann Cups must we win. App has dominated enough in Football, our school sport, but also ALL sports. More on the men's side than women's but overall App has been the school in the SoCon, and not just because we offer more sports.
Last year, I spent hours and hours going back to the original Cup points from 1969, and where points lists could not be found I reconstructed from published sports standings. Since App joined the SoCon we have not only more Cups, but had a better overall average in points per year and points per year per sport. When you slice and dice the data, App had proven themselves in the SoCon. I can provide this spreadsheet again if anyone wants to look at all the glorious numbers.
At this point either get behind the team or just get out. No school has dropped back down to FCS from FBS and I don't see us being the first, so you are wasting your energy pining over the SoCon.
I would not care if App went DIII to be honest. I would want us to be the best D-III program in the NCAA. But we are DI-FBS now and we need to accept it.
I would love to see us honor Moore in some very big way. I would want to be in the stands for that halftime tribute. But, Moore is gone. Cobb is gone. We have a new Chancellor. Just let it go. Just let it go.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

We were embarrassed? News to me. We were beaten soundly, sure, but embarrassed? No.

Yawn, his right to his opinion, if he doesn't support the program or school anymore, not our problem, hope his rant made him feel better

If we hadn't gotten too big for our britches and moved up to FBS, we would never have gotten obliterated at Virginia Tech in 2011.

Re: How do you repond to this?
I read a FB post yesterday from a guy who said no App team has ever been so embarrassed as the one that went to UM yesterday. I asked if the guy remembered VPI or Florida and got a ho hum answer. Some people just have an axe to grind, you'll never change their mind.
Give 'em hell!

I could add a couple of games against VMI, Citadel, and WCU that were rather "embarrassing" and those were SoCon games. Yesterdays game would have been played rather App was FBS or not. At this point just support the teams in all sports as the transition will take a little time and effort.BeauFoster wrote:I read a FB post yesterday from a guy who said no App team has ever been so embarrassed as the one that went to UM yesterday. Re: How do you repond to this?
Yesterday was hardly our most embarassing loss. I'd go with UTC 72, App 14...during the "Appalachian Football Ain't Working" era.
And as far as JLJ is concerned, he, like Lynch, can kiss my black and gold fanny. Probably sour grapes from being benched last year...

The VT game in '11 is the most embarrassed I've ever been at an App State game.SpeedkingATL wrote:I could add a couple of games against VMI, Citadel, and WCU that were rather "embarrassing" and those were SoCon games. Random VT fans were actually telling my crew how much love they had for App State to make us feel better.
Zero positive outcomes came from that 2011 VT game. I saw several yesterday despite it being a butt-whooping.

I might need something stronger to forget that one; anyway the liquor store is closed.BeauFoster wrote:I hate to remind everyone of it, but FAMU in the playoffs.

Kinney Baughman played basketball for Maravich. He was not an athlete. The 3 seasons I had to watch his team were an embarrassment.

Add the JLJ tweet from yesterday to your list too.App74 wrote:I was at the game and I was not embarrassed.
I am embarrassed, however, by public comments from Mr. Baughman and Mr. Lynch.
