Sad news for someone in the prime of their life, but at this time of year it must be even worse for the family.
From what I read about is that she was a senior physics major at App, and died in a car crash.

This has not been a good semester for App. Thoughts and Prayers for her family and hope that the new year brings a better time for the Mountaineer Family.

Indeed it has not been a good semester. 3 suicides and this that I am aware of. I hope this is it for a good long time. It may not mean that much but I do hope her degree is awarded to her family.

My daughter is a senior at App and Mandie was one of the first friends that she met there. She was a bright, beautiful, funny girl. Such a tragedy.

I only met Mandie once through her job at Motts Seafood in Wilmington Beach this past summer. Her Grandfather told me she worked there and the next time I went in, I asked the prettiest, friendliest girl I saw if she was Mandie. A beautiful smile lit up her pretty face and it was obvious I had the right young lady. We talked about her summer, about Appalachian, her dad, and her granddad. Her love of her family and her school was obvious.
I will always remember her this way and be glad she was a part of our App family and that I got to know her even just a little bit.

Praying that God's Peace and Love will give strength to the entire Phillips family as they try to cope with Mandie's death. Parents having to bury their child--every responsible adult's wort nightmare.
