Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
I think the county knows we want it and they are trying to stick it to us. We should have demanded a straight land swap for the Price land we gave them for the new WHS.

Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
As a 22 year real estate professional, $270k an acre would not be out of range IF it were zoned commercial. However, this price, combined with the land App has donated to the WCS system over the years, is insulting.
Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
that is insulting, we give them land, and they refuse to give us a discount price on WHS. Wouldn't surprise me if we had a bunch of commissioners, probably a percentage retired, who don't have a clue about a realistic price for the land, and who hold a grudge against the University, their attitude is, they want the land bad enough, then they can over pay for it. If they hold firm on that price, my guess is the land will not sell and will sit there for a number of years, then they will be forced to either lower their asking price, or start selling it off in pieces.

Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
Given the availability of large tracts of useable land in Boone, $20,000,000 is a good price. I believe an offer around $30,000,000 was turned down near the real estate peak. Anyone else recall the details of that?

Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
Can someone explain to me why we would just give the town/county land? Was there an agreement for future consideration? Did we trade it for another piece?

If in fact someone did turn that down it would make them a total idiot. Hope they got fired.MountainMan wrote:Given the availability of large tracts of useable land in Boone, $20,000,000 is a good price. It was turned down by County commissioners led by Jim Deal former ASU Board of Trustees members.bcoach wrote:If in fact someone did turn that down it would make them a total idiot. Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
Was Jim doing this so ASU had a chance to buy the property later when ASU could afford to offer something competitive but cheaper than 30 mil.asu24 wrote:It was turned down by County commissioners led by Jim Deal former ASU Board of Trustees members.bcoach wrote:If in fact someone did turn that down it would make them a total idiot. Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
What are the chances it gets rezoned to residential. I know nothing about Real Estate other than what I heard the family saying growing up(many were involved in real-estate). To me it seems to be in a place that wouldn't be horrible as a residential area. With all the growth I have seen in wilmington with condos and apartments for the the boomers retiring here, it could very well be worth the price to the right person or developer.
Re: Notice of Sale (WHS)
No. The commissioners had visions of a bidding war for the property. Bids were coming in and I think I remember they were holding out for 35 mil. In the mean time the recession hit.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Was Jim doing this so ASU had a chance to buy the property later when ASU could afford to offer something competitive but cheaper than 30 mil.asu24 wrote:It was turned down by County commissioners led by Jim Deal former ASU Board of Trustees members.bcoach wrote:If in fact someone did turn that down it would make them a total idiot. I hope not as that would be highly unethical and very illegalMcLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Was Jim doing this so ASU had a chance to buy the property later when ASU could afford to offer something competitive but cheaper than 30 mil.asu24 wrote:It was turned down by County commissioners led by Jim Deal former ASU Board of Trustees members.bcoach wrote:If in fact someone did turn that down it would make them a total idiot.
