Re: Funeral : Coach Light, 1:30 PM, First Presby, Boone
Coach Light's funeral was well-attended by townsfolk, members of First Presbyterian Church, ASU alumni from six decades, former ASU basketball and tennis players and former head coaches and assistant coaches. It was a fine turnout and a fine tribute to a husband, father, mentor, coach and friend.
First Presbyterian Pastor Jeff Smith conducted the Memorial Service and eulogies were given by Coach Light's son, Bobby; former university Vice-Chancellor Bobby Snead; and former head basketball coach Bobby Cremins.
Dozens of Coach Light's close friends and former players served as honorary pallbearers. They're too numerous to name (I'd leave someone out and feel badly about it), but to give you an idea, they included ASU alumni or former ASU coaches whose names you will recognize...former players Wayne Duncan, Dr. Rick Howe, Jim "Peanut" Wilcox, Bobby Tate, Paul Reynolds, Bill Sposato, Dr. Gerry Francis, Tony Gray and many others and former ASU basketball coaches including Tom Apke, Buzz Peterson, Kevin Cantwell and Bobby Cremins.
Cremins stood just inside the main entrance of the church sanctuary and cordially greeted everyone who entered. He still knew many of them by first name. He treated those he was meeting for the first time like old friends. Always a class act! Always!
Although we've lost a great friend, the APPALACHIAN FAMILY is alive and well!

It was a very nice showing...the stories were quite amusing to hear as well.
