What do you think will be the next athletic venue to be renovated/rebuilt? Will it be KBS? Holmes Convocation Center? The softball or baseball field?

Also, what do you think should be next?

Stadium Parking Lot - needs to be dug down so that it is a giant parking deck of three levels with the top level being set up with plantings, trees and grass. The top is used as a green space park but allowed for tailgate parking for game days. The two levels under will be two levels of normal student day parking.

Holmes? Renovated or rebuilt? You hafta be kidding. The building just opened in December 2000. The playing floor was replaced last summer. Plans have just been announced to redesign and renovate the Volleyball team's "clubhouse" (dressing facility). Other than that, all HCC needs is an overhead scoreboard, a jumbotron video board and a next-door parking deck. The latter will take place when the owners decide to let the university buy the Hardees property next door to HCC.

The most lacking sports venue on campus has to be the women's softball facility. The team needs a new state-of-the-art complex on a new site. ASU will host the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Softball Tourney. At the very least, the Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium will be heavily renovated before the start of the 2017 season. If a new site can be identified on campus, a new Sywassink/Lloyd field may be built before the tourney.

Next upgrade will be a new scoreboard for HCC. After that a closer video board for KBS.

There doesn't seem to be any work planned for the HCC until 2019 at the earliest according to the UNC System Athletic plan. Y'all are talking like we don't have to go begging our slavemasters in Chapel Hill for the money to finance these things.

if we have to go to Chapel Hill for money we are in trouble, they just spent all our money on legal fees, no money left for us.

We need a dedicated track facility before anything else. Everyone else has their own venue to play at besides track not to mention it will make future KBS renovations easier/better.

agree with the field and track, but that means we need to find 20 million to purchase the old high school site.

Talk of spending money on non-revenue sports makes me cringe. The softball and soccer teams have fine facilities and unless I'm missing something, how will building an entirely new Track and Field facility provide a return on investment? Put a track around the soccer field and call it a day.

Agree: softball needs more attention. The facility is much better after the latest tweak that moved the dugouts from left and right field (legacy baseball field location) but I have been in HS facilities that are better. This hurts recruiting and in the Sun Belt (1 conference win this season) we are going to have to step it up. My new boss's daughter was offered a scholly at App and she turned it down for a DII school that had better coaching continuity and better facilities.

Softball can be a revenue sport if treated right. We're at a disadvantage because of Boon'es general location. The current facility is miles better than playing at the Watauga Rec Park just a few years ago, but there's still room to make up.

The current facility hosted the SoCon Tournament 4 seasons ago.

Softball is not, and will never be, a revenue sport. Not for Appalachian or any other school.

I assume the definition of a "revenue sport" is one that generates a net gain every season. I don't know if you've bought a plane ticket before, but the ticket sales from one home softball stand couldn't pay to send our outfield to an away game.

UL-Lafayette averages over 2,000 per home softball game with season tickets between $80 and $135. That plus merch and concessions equals a healthy amount of money. So it can be done. Let's not say it can't be done.

If you treat something as the best thing ever and promote it as such, then eventually someone will listen.

But they also have a history of elite level softball and perfect temperatures all season. Two things we won't have for a while.

The admission is still free for single game tickets. I would bet less than 1/4 of that 2000 are season ticket holders, and even that is being very generous to say 500 people bought softball season tickets. The cost of travel and recruiting is negating any merchandise and concessions gate. Softball is non-revenue. Nontheless their facility does need upgrading but definitely not first in line.

I guess those single game tickets are a figment of my imagination.

The idea of a "non-revenue sport" is one where it makes no money. UL-Lafayette is clearly making money on softball. They might not be making a profit, but they're making money. It also spurs sport-specific donations and positive results beyond the field.

Yes App might have disadvantages with the weather, but that doesn't mean App can't. Sounds like a challenge to me.
