College of Innovation and Design

Unread post by moonshine » Wed Jul 15, 2015 10:21 am

We know Chancellor Everts has an academic (and Cornhusker) background. Does anyone know what she's doing to move academics forward?

Would a similar college (Innovation and Design) to what Boise St is doing work at App?

I found this excerpt interesting and may help App get the UNC BOG handcuffs off.

"Most universities are starting small, in a department. We’ve created a college because that way allows us to have a transformative impact and gives us the power to create new degrees. Otherwise, it would be happening in a silo.

Most large, established entities miss out because their tendency is to preserve their core product. We all want to be innovative, but they fear innovation threatens the core. Bob Kustra doesn’t have that fear. He’s willing to start a place for what might be disruptive ideas."

Very interesting idea. Sounds kind of like the App Solar projects, where they have students from different disciplines working side by side to design and build the solar homes. Also kind of like the fermentation science degree where the students take both science and business classes.

Sounds a lot like the Tech. Department, which is in Fine & Applied Arts.
