Extreme Makeover: Yosef's Cabin Edition
With some free time this past week, I decided to do a redesign of the Yosef's Cabin's header, in addition to upgrading Yosef's humble abode.
Yosef himself (the MMB) moderator has seen the designs and loved them! He recommended I posted them here to allow you all to allow some feedback! I loved designing this and I think it sticks with the tradition of Yosef and Appalachian State, while bringing in some modernity and professionalism.

Maybe a block A on the door and make the smoke coming out of the chimney be the outline of yosefs head.

Yes, add the block A above the door and some smoke coming out of the chimney.

Agree with others - add a block A somewhere, or possible Yosef's face looking out from the window, and I think it's good!

Needs a solar panel on the roof, skis leaning on the front, and a Subaru parked in the background.
Or, a still off to the side, a musket leaning on the porch, and an old pickup in the background.
Or, it looks great as is.

I like it too. Trying to get away from using official App State logos (or their likeness) as a part of our logo. I do like the idea of adding a musket somewhere in there and think a rocking chair would be cool too.

Can we just not keep the one we have? Now that I have paid it a little attention (in the comparison process) I have realized it has some subtle brilliance about it.Yosef wrote:I like it too. I like the font better, and the cabin better a lot. But agree it needs block A or yosef somewhere. Could cut "go to" out of tagline to make it less wordy.

Re: Extreme Makeover: Yosef's Cabin Edition
Yosef wouldn't ever be caught short-handed with a mere Napoleonic musket or a later Enfield musket. They were terribly inaccurate in war and virtually useless in hunting small game for the family supper table. Their worth was really in close-order hand-to-hand combat with bayonets.Yosef wrote:I like it too. Trying to get away from using official App State logos (or their likeness) as a part of our logo. Think custom-built *long rifle* for Yosef's firearm of choice. Highly accurate at long range; with impressive stopping power for the era.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: Extreme Makeover: Yosef's Cabin Edition
While I agree that a longrifle would be the perfect choice for Yosef, your evaluation on the merits of a smooth-bore military musket for practical uses are inaccurate. .69-.75 caliber muskets such as the French Charleville and British Brown Bess are more accurate than given credit for and are capable of hitting man sized targets out to ~80 yards. The ability to load them with round ball, small shot, or a combination of the two made smoothbore muskets, or fowling pieces, very popular in Colonial America as a versatile weapon choice for hunting/protection.asu66 wrote:Yosef wouldn't ever be caught short-handed with a mere Napoleonic musket or a later Enfield musket. It actually bothers me a lot that the rifle Yosef carries around, that the ROTC guys fire after a score, is replica of a Hawken Rifle that would have been more prominent on the great plains of North America with fur trappers/buffalo hunters heading west during the second quarter of the 19th century.
He should be portrayed with a smaller caliber flintlock rifle resembling something found in the Southern Appalachians such as this:
Sorry for the rambling...the development of small arms and their impact on society in American History is one of my main areas of study, and I kind of went overboard there haha

Re: Extreme Makeover: Yosef's Cabin Edition
One source said he carried a Kentucky rifle in .45 caliber. We should not use a Hawken.
Maybe we could take a collection and buy this for the school:
