What YC talks about most
Below are the top lists of what YC replies to the most and views the most. The first table is for replies and the second table is for views. The Replies column was limited to 200 or more posts and the Views column was limited to 20,000 or more. The current Carolina topic had me wonder what this would look like since some are complaining that we talk about UNC too much on here. Hopefully this table is readable because the file attachment at the bottom would not accept any type of file I used including text, XPS, Excel 97-03 workbook, word doc 97-03, MHTML, pdf, XML, excel 2010, and word 2010. If anyone cares to add on feel free. It is pretty clear Moose owns the YC. We do seem to like ourselves some UNC.

Re: What YC talks about most
The concept that you and a few others are totally missing is that the totality of threads about "other schools" pales in any comparison with threads, views, posts and replies about ASU in general and about ASU Athletics in particular. This is pure foolishness.
For the few closeted Tarheel fans among us who can't "stomach" news of the ongoing fraud investigation down east, I have no words of comfort to offer.

I'm not missing any concept. I just posted the top stats for all the categories because I was curious about it since people in that thread kept saying how much YC people talk about UNC. I am very aware that if you add up everything talked about on here it would be 90% or more centered around ASU. That is a given. I am simply showing a stat the reveals that the fifth most viewed and replied to thread is the one about UNC. If you want to make a broad and foolish assumption by lumping me in with those people I guess you can do whatever floats your boat. I just thought I would share the stats that I added up. I guess I'll keep my foolish factual stats to myself next time so I don't get pounced on by the overly sensitive....Oh wait I need an emoji too

Don't take my post as an attack on you. I can imagine the time you devoted to your project. I just stated a personal opinion about the entire "UNC" can of worms. Everyone has an opinion. I'm no different. If you felt attacked or unappreciated, I apologize. Diplomacy sometimes escapes me.appdaze wrote:asu66 wrote:The concept that you and a few others are totally missing is that the totality of threads about "other schools" pales in any comparison with threads, views, posts and replies about ASU in general and about ASU Athletics in particular. I do feel that you were led (by others) to attach way, way too much significance to that thread. But that's just me (and my opinion)!

Re: What YC talks about most
The concept being missed is the perception of time.
The scandal at UNC has also been in the news for going on 6 years, with the extent of academic shenanigans cropping up in the last 2 or 3 years. Due to UNC and the NCAA continuing to put their heads in the sand the story stays relevant. There also is a concern from me & others wondering what any future impact the "UNc" board of Gov's decide to hand down on all member institutions. In their minds UNC can't go down alone.
The point is, outside of the recruiting threads, all of the App storylines and happenings are thankfully short-lived (knock on wood). Thus, we have high intensity posting in those threads in short windows of time. The UNc thread has mini bursts of posts as news has hit the papers over the course of years.

Re: What YC talks about most
No hard feelings. It only took me about 20 minutes to find those numbers and slap them in excel only to have it not attach in any of the attempted formats leaving me with the copy and paste option which just wasn't as nice looking as a clean cut spread sheet.asu66 wrote: Don't take my post as an attack on you. AppDawg you are right on the spurts of posting on that thread. One thing I did think was interesting is that more people seem willing to speak up in that thread versus many of the others in the top lists. Within 2 ranks it drops almost right at 300 replies. With the exception of the Moore thread its basically double all the others. If you look at the viewed numbers list nothing in the top 13 is half of the viewed numbers. In other words a lot of people like to just look at YC without ever saying a word but the UNC thread, even with its longevity, has brought out more than just our routine members and it seems many of our routine members have been more vocal than usual as it seems to be a touchy issue.

Re: What YC talks about most
I'd actually argue that as a group UNC-CH news doesn't move the needle. The average views per post is lower for that thread than App specific threads. The Miami game got three times as many views per post.

Re: What YC talks about most
UNC, as a topic, has been quarantined to a single thread more effectively than any topic to date. I don't understand how it's so hard for the baby blue PJ's crowd to refrain from clicking if it hurts their feewings so bad.

Re: What YC talks about most
The UNC academic fraud case has far reaching implcations throughout the UNC system, and nationally; relevancy of this discussion goes way beyond love or hate for UNC-CH. A great deal of good is coming as a result of this case, some which has already been seen. This case has forced universities nationwide to pay attention to academic clustering, and put a renewed focus on the "student" component of "student-athlete". The case has brought attention to competing demands on today's student-athlete and should cause every University to step back and do some self examination. I believe many schools are in fact doing this. Hopefully healthy discussion will cause college athletics to make needed changes for the better.

As long as coaches and administration are bringing in 6 & 7 figures salaries + bonus' I'm not really sure how much change we can reasonably expect.

The real question that needs answering is how the thread about Boone needing a hip hop scene fits into all of this. That's a thread that never dies.
