East Side Stands
The site won't allow me to post in the football folder for some reason. I watched on ESPN3 and every time they showed the East Stands (which was very seldom) they looked mostly empty. Was that appearance mostly due to the white out or were they actually that empty.

I know, I've sat on the East side 20 or 30 times over the years going back to the late 1960's The sun can be brutal. The hill wasn't butt to butt like it was at many games I attended even in a down pour. ESPN3 announcers didn't really talk much about the game itself, just babbled on relentlessly.

Re: East Side Stands
East stands pretty full at first l, then moved to the shade. Attendance was like 23,500ish.
Students were great, stayed a while and were loud. Older alum/others, not so much. Most were quiet and not that into the game.

Re: East Side Stands
Our seats are in section 213 on the east side and there were a lot of empty seats around us.

I'm in 110 and we were loud until an event staff made everyone sit down! I argued and didn't sit but everyone else in the section sat and got quiet. Later we were told she was supposed to get people standing on the bleachers, not everyone standing. Definitely put a damper on the entire section!

Mass exodus at half time is still irritating. Why in gods name do folks make the trip, tailgate (maybe) and leave at halftime???? Truly baffles me.

Re: East Side Stands
Pretty sad to have less than 24,000 for the season opener especially after the performance last week. People need to get their butts in Boone every week. The crowd that was there made lots of noise early until the game got boring.

JT, we will make up for it next week, so to speak, with a record breaking crowd in KBS.JTApps1 wrote:Pretty sad to have less than 24,000 for the season opener especially after the performance last week. I really think it is a cultural, monkey see monkey do thing. I believe it's mostly students who do it but could be wrong. I'd be interested to know the reason. Perhaps a survey could be conducted to find the reasoning so we could address it.bigdaddyg wrote:Mass exodus at half time is still irritating. Re: East Side Stands
We were under the west side standing for much of the halftime and I watched lots of people heading out. By mid 3rd half of the grass folks appeared to be gone. Some say it was a good crowd- of course ODU brought what, maybe 100 people? Hard to believe we can't get 28,000 for opening day.ASU-FTW wrote:I really think it is a cultural, monkey see monkey do thing. I believe it's mostly students who do it but could be wrong. There were people leaving in the first quarter. To think we need expansion is simply ridiculous.bigdaddyg wrote:Mass exodus at half time is still irritating. Why in gods name do folks make the trip, tailgate (maybe) and leave at halftime???? Truly baffles me.

Re: East Side Stands
Agree. Until I was actually sitting in the stands I couldn't appreciate the size of the temp stands. It looks like we maxed out that area (and leave room for vehicles). I was wondering if it's possible to add temps on the hill above the buildings (all the way up).bcoach wrote:There were people leaving in the first quarter. It was a beautiful day yesterday and it was the first home game. Student section appeared to be full. If we can only muster 24k we absolutely have no business spending millions expanding to 30-35k.
All this debate aside I just have to ask. Is it really a crime to reach a point where we, as a program, are consistently at or near the top 25, battle for conference titles and go to bowl games yet average 25k a game? Granted a Miami or Wake will be huge and will bolster our average attendance but overall is 25k just about what are? TV availability and other demographic factors might just be the reality.
Where would 25k per game rank us overall in the BCS world?

Re: East Side Stands
Outside of the mass exodus being students, only thing I can think of is folks living outside of Boone looking to get back to their homes early or get to that early bird dinner. I'm one that wants to stay to the end however.bigdaddyg wrote:Mass exodus at half time is still irritating. Why in gods name do folks make the trip, tailgate (maybe) and leave at halftime???? Re: East Side Stands
Our seats are in the East side lower level. Can't see the upper section from there but every one in my field of vision was packed: student sections including the temp EZ, West side upper level, hill, and the lower East side sections.
The crowd was loud. The people that left seemed to be alums. Only the students in the temp ez section left before the end of the 4th.
Solid day for App Nation given the second trip to up a Mountain in as many weeks.
Give it a rest with the complaining.

Re: East Side Stands
I agree with the complaining. The home side looked packed on tv and the away side like about 75% full at the start of the game. The problem is most of the alums that were at App during the three-peat like me are just starting to have kids and other things in life. I can't wait for next week.Gonzo wrote:Our seats are in the East side lower level. Agree JT! Obviously waiting on Miami BUT that's kinda like saying " I want to be there when my kid walks for the first time but I don't care if I miss the first time he/she says mama".JTApps1 wrote:Pretty sad to have less than 24,000 for the season opener especially after the performance last week. Re: East Side Stands
and that is the real deal. We are a loud and proud fan base but not a large one. We don't have as many fans as we do people who want to attend an " event". It is what it is. When people are leaving in the first quarter you know they were never there for the game. When they leave at the half you know they were never there for the game. Rather than expansion which we don't need I would rather see enhancements for those of us who come to see a game. Restrooms, video board, refreshment stands things like that.YesAppCan wrote:Agree JT! With that said there just might be an announcement tomorrow.

Re: East Side Stands
Defeatist delusion. We're about to cram 35k into the Rock. We could fill 40k+ if we had the seats.
In what pessimistic parallel universe do you people live in??? Not a place I want to visit.
"We don't have a big fan base" Laughable.
