Re: Malachi Jones
I have met Malachi twice and he has always been nice to my family and I; he is a very respectful kid (called me sir a bunch) and shakes your hand and looks you in the eyes when he is talking to you.
I think Malachi is a good football player in this system, but could be a great player in a pass heavy one. He has been open a lot this year I think and Taylor has just missed him.
I hope he gets a shot in the NFL! It would be great to get to continue following his career.

Re: Malachi Jones
Boy, some of you guys are tough. Compare his stats to #2 or #3 receivers on a top 25 team like Clemson and he's not far off. Malachi is a class act on and off the field and a well rounded football player. He can catch, block and tackle well enough to get a look at the next level. What are you expecting? A 1,000 yard receiver? Not going to happen in this offense. Didn't even happen for Clemson. Thanks for your effort and willingness to do what it takes to win Malachi!

Devon Moore's 4th down fingertip catch that saved the JMU playoff game in 2007 - without which there is no 3rd NC.......that alone did "it" for me. I will always love that guy for that.APPdiesel wrote:To me his career kinda feels like Devan Moore - lot of potential but never did "it" for me.

Re: RE: Malachi Jones
And I also think I'm a little biased because I was a student in the Kevin Richardson era. The way I remember him was he was a bulldozer who was going to get you the 4 yards you needed every time. That's not to say Devan or Malichi haven't made great plays because they absolutely have. And it's also not to say they weren't great men because they absolutely are. I also understand good players will have break out seasons with the help of great teammates and a favorable system around them just like great players can have disappointing seasons without those things.AppRolls wrote:Devon Moore's 4th down fingertip catch that saved the JMU playoff game in 2007 - without which there is no 3rd NC.......that alone did "it" for me. Re: Malachi Jones
In my opinion Malachi will be missed a lot. Like others have said he does a lot of things on the field that might might not get noticed by a lot of fans. HIs stat line might not be gaudy but his presence and leadership on the team, I believe will be missed. Plus from my distance he really seems to be a great Mountaineer.

Re: Malachi Jones
I tend to agree with others on this thread that Malachi's contribution to the team goes much deeper than can be represented on the stat sheet. His character and leadership has been lauded much over the course of this career. On the field, I believe his physical presence creates openings for his teammates. A guy with the physicality of Malachi will draw the attention of opposing DC and d-backs and that softens coverage underneath and for the other receivers. I know I'll miss seeing him on the field.
On a completely frivolous note, Malachi will forever for me to be a part of a team with the coolest names in college football:

Re: Malachi Jones
The point about blocking is a good one. I think we'll have better athletes at WR next year than we do now, but whether guys like Meadors, Barbour, Letman, Adams, Lewis etc. will be as proficient as blockers as the current seniors is TBD.

Malachi has been one of my favorite players since he arrived on campus. I hope he gets a shot to play on Sundays, even if it's ST. Quality, team-first player.

Re: Malachi Jones
With Shaedon Meadors apparently out, Malachi Jones could well be the difference-maker in Friday's game. He's a cagey senior, playing in the biggest, or one of the biggest games of his life. The cream rises to the top. Watch out for a tremendous effort from Malachi.

Re: Malachi Jones
I thought he would be a star receiver this year. Regardless, Malachi is the consummate “team player,” he catches the ball or blocks downfield when asked without question. He does nothing halfway and never complains when he’s not in the spotlight; his only concern is the team win. One can say nothing better about a football player.

OK, if you want to move it to Saturday, it's OK with me If, and only if, you can get it "live" on ESPN at 5:30! Otherwise leave it alone for today!WataugaMan wrote:How about Saturday's game?asu66 wrote:With Shaedon Meadors apparently out, Malachi Jones could well be the difference-maker in Friday's game.

Okay, I'll see what I can do. However, I'm making no promises.asu66 wrote:OK, if you want to move it to Saturday, it's OK with me If, and only if, you can get it "live" on ESPN at 5:30!
