Momentum in football is an odd thing.

It can turn a team that gained just 4 yards in a quarter into an unstoppable machine on the verge of a blowout. And just as quickly, it can turn on a dime, take it all away and hand a struggling kicker a chance at redemption.

And in the midst of it all, it can turn a pre-Christmas bowl game into a thoroughly entertaining 4 hours of football.

Appalachian State won its first bowl game, 31-29, knocking off Ohio University in the second Raycom Media Camellia Bowl at Cramton Bowl.

"It has been an unbelievable week for us here in Montgomery," Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield said. "I've never been a part of a game quite like that. We gave them three touchdowns on defense. We could have gotten down on ourselves, but these kids don't quit. They never give up."

There were plenty of opportunities for the Mountaineers to do so.

With an odd shift in momentum in the fourth quarter, they were able to erase a 17-point deficit to score three times in less than 2 minutes and grab the lead. After a safety and an Ohio field goal gave the Bobcats a one-point edge with 1:47 to play, Appalachian State kept coming.
