Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Seriously? The OL was missing starters the last 4-5 games and still performed. Lamb is a liability? Please..... I'll take a QB with a 11-2 season under his belt any day. Room for improvement? Who doesn't? I've been a high school athletic trainer and I certainly try to improve everyday.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Clearly our guys showed today that heart and grit gets your pretty darn far. Best game I have ever seen with a special group of young men. So proud of the team and our seniors. THEY NEVER GIVE UP EVER!!

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't Caruso the only back up QB who has received significant playing time this season?PhillyApp1 wrote:if you all notice those are the 3 areas we are recruiting because of a lack of depth.
We have had many injuries to those areas except QB and i wonder if we have depth there also.
I started this thread during the game because they were areas showing problems.
Congrats to the team that never gave up but those areas are of obvious recruiting importance.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Someone told me during the game that Carusso was injured in practice and they didnt want him playing. Anyone have knowledge of this? Maybe it was posted and I missed it in the injury reports.

Put that together with all of the major injuries suffered by our OLine, WRs, LBs, DBs, DLine, and RBs and we've got almost a Mother Teresa miracle here. Quit your belly-aching and show some appreciation for an outstanding season.
And for the record, the fact that we are playing Tennessee and Miami next season isn't lost on our coaching staff. They know that we have to constantly upgrade the talent on our roster. That's ongoing to infinity--not a train-wreck catastrophe. It's the simple reality of FBS football.

Good god I hate to think what a few on this board will say if we "only" win 8-9 games next season...

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
Lots of injuries on the Oine this season. Need to recruit more depth there for the future and WRs also due to large number graduating this year. I think we are good to go at QB position though. Lamb is a good leader and gives 100%. Depth there is OK too.
That last 90 seconds of the first half & start of 3rd quarter were terrible, but the team & staff didn't give up. Great season! I do wish we could replay that 2nd half of the Arkansas state game again though to make that right, but 11-2 is still a great FBS year for our Mountaineer football team.
Thanks to the fans too. I wish we could have made the trip to Alabama and we will at the bowl next year. You could hear the fans were loud on ESPN & WKBC and helped support that great comeback victory. App Nation represented well

That is one option or it might just take 4.5 or 5 years to earn his degree. He could take 12 hours during fall semesters and need the extra year to wrap up his degree requirements.NewApp wrote:So he'll have to go to graduate school to play his last year, correct?AppDawg wrote:Lamb is a redshirt sophomore this year. Good post. I guess his detractors were too drunk to notice.clayton wrote:Lamb's last touchdown pass broke the school record for passing touchdowns in a season. He made the biggest play on the last drive to get us in field goal range.

I apologize for the timing of my post but i stand by my comment that we are lacking depth in those areas and they have been areas of concern for the team.
I am sorry I posted it during the game.
Now, go post on a celebratory thread.

Oline and QB are real problems
Some of the posts on this thread are unbelievable. We just won our first bowl game that capped off an 11-2 season! There's plenty of time to analyze areas of opportunity but maybe we could just be happy for what these kids just achieved for a couple of hours.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
So hear are my thoughts:
- Was the OL great every play? No, but we were playing without both starting tackles! I doubt there's a team in America that could do that and not have some noticeable drop off. We literally did not have a tackle on the field last night - played with four guards and a center. And we rushed for over 300 yards, BTW.
We absolutely need to improve OL depth quickly, but overall I thought they played better than could have been expected given the circumstances.
- I feel like some people can only see the negative in Lamb. Yes, he makes too many mistakes when pressured. No, he doesn't have the strongest arm. But to single him out as one of the "real problems" with the O? Nah, man.
First of all, the kid does a lot more good than bad. He made a TON of plays for us all year, with his arm and his legs. If you think the TD run or the long run on the last drive were "game manager" stuff, then we'll just have to disagree.
Is he dependent on having good talent around him? Of course he is. So is pretty much every QB not named Brady, Rodgers or Newton.
Which brings me to our WRs: In case anyone didn't notice, we were basically playing without 4 of our top 6-7 WRs last night. I don't know what other people saw on TV or in person, but from my seat, the guys just weren't getting open much. I actually can't remember a single play where a WR got separation downfield. Lamb tried to take a couple shots, but the guys were just blanketed. (We did at least draw the one PI call on the throw to Barbour.)
Yes we are recruiting those areas - and every other area, because that's what you have to do in recruiting.

Re: Oline and QB are real problems
If we are stuggling at those 3 spots and put up 470 yards, I sure hope we start struggling in more spots. Is Lamb an NFL talent with an NFL arm? No, but he is a more than capable FBS QB. THE CHAMPS HERE!!!!!
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

I got .8333 for our winning percentage. Is my calculator on the fritz?
