Jerry Moore will not return
Re: Jerry Moore will not return
I really wish Jerry all the best. He has been so great for this football program.
I really hope we can get someone as committed to Appalachian as Jerry was. My worry is that if we get someone that has any success - they will be poached by bigger football programs that can pay them more money. Every decent basketball coach we've ever had in the past has been nabbed by the bigger programs.

Hi guys! New here and wanted to jump in on the conversation! 2010 and 2011 grad of ASU. 4 year BOD participant!
I wish Coach Moore all the best. Sad by the news, but agree that it is time to change some things up. He is a class act. I interviewed Coach Moore for a paper during the Spring before the Michigan game and was blown away by his humbleness and how open he was. Just kicked back and answered my questions like it was no big deal. Made a huge impact on this girl.
I, for one, would love to see Eliot come back. Not sure if it will happen and I have nothing against SS, but I love Eliot's energy. I saw him with his group before the Michigan game and knew then that they were there to make a statement. Either of them would make me happy.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
If Elliot was actually in the box yesterday, would lead me to believe he could be in the coaching mix, not sure we have the pocket book to pay him though, nor does it blend with Satterfield coming back down a level.
About the only way to afford Elliot considering his demand and our current financial ability to pay what he is now worth is for Peacock to have bought APP one of the winning tickets in the recent $500 million Powerball.
I'd like to have Elliot and Satterfield, but don't think there is much chance of having both again.

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
Elliot would be great and having both would be awesome (but highly unlikely). I personally think I'd rather have Satterfield, as I think he could be the next Jerry Moore (as far as willingness to stay at App for 3 decades - success will be tough to match). Elliot, on the other hand, may not be as likely to stay for an extended period of time. With success at Appalachian, I could see him moving along as I think his lifelong dream would be to become the head coach of the Gamecocks, though I have nothing other than my opinion to back that up.Black Saturday wrote:If Elliot was actually in the box yesterday, would lead me to believe he could be in the coaching mix, not sure we have the pocket book to pay him though, nor does it blend with Satterfield coming back down a level.

I agree - I'd rather have someone who has already had success with Appalachian and would be committed to staying.Yosef wrote:Elliot would be great and having both would be awesome (but highly unlikely). I feel the need to also say a big thank you to Coach Moore for all he has done for Appalachian. He has meant so much to the team, the university, and the community that we all love. App football has grown so much since I began going to games as a kid, and it's in large part because of Coach Moore. The numbers speak for themselves, and the most important thing is that he won with class and did things the right way. I truly hope we see "Jerry Moore Field" dedicated at Kidd Brewer next year.

Very interesting comments in this makes it sound like it was NOT Moore's choice.
That quote very much makes me think that the agreement was moving up to FBS. Once we move up Moore steps aside. I think we have an invite and it will be announced shortly and that's why Moore has stepped aside. Not because he necessarily wanted to, but because he doesn't support the move OR he doesn't feel like he has the energy to go through the move.We had an agreement in place, and it's honoring that agreement," Cobb said on a conference call. "There's a difference of opinion, but the reality of it is it's just time. We'll move forward.
My two cents.

Yosef-See my post from a few minutes ago in the CC thread. You're two cents are a couple of pretty pennies.Yosef wrote:Appersrule wrote:http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnf ... id=4547674

I certainly hope it's not a health-related issue... It SHOULD NOT BE anything directly related to success on the football field..
If Cobb forced him out, I would rahter have Jerry than Cobb.

Did anyone hear Cadet's five minute praising of Jerry Moore at half time? That says it all about Jerry, the way Travis thanked Jerry for giving him the versatility to have a shot at the NFL.

when I woke up this morning in Boone I still could not believe yesterday's ending....then I went up town and in the "App" store beside the sub shop, the lady told me she had talked with Coach Moore this morning about picking up a check for items they had sold and he told her he would not be by today as he had just been fired....HER Words! I about fell down! I expected "something" to happen soon, but the day after such a heartbreaker....wow!
Now: based on what I have "gleaned" from today....I'd think we might want to put a little credence into what "unknown" is saying!
It might go to SS...but there is a reason SE was in the House.....as for the Nationwide search....I guarantee you that there is a lot of interest in this position....some surprising interest if we ever get to know!
I think they can live together...CC did NOT promise the position to SS upon his return. You just do not do that any more!
I think we are in a good position....We will see!
It is still great to be a Mountaineer!
..but if you can "fire" Jerry Moore AFTER a SoCon Championship season....what is Capel thinking tonight?

Amen. But CC will think long and hard about firing Capel because it would be admitting that he screwed the pooch on that hire.asutrnr81 wrote:Borrowed from RankinApp!

Re: Jerry Moore will not return
WOW!!!!! I heard this might be true earlier this morning, but didn't post anything.
This now clears up why David Jackson lost it last night as he was signing off. I was wondering why he lost it and thought it was strange. Never in a million years did I think it was because of Coach Moore.
He will be missed. Great record and took a chance to change to a spread offense. It made ASU football so much more exciting.
1-Win over Michigan
2-3 National Championships
3-A two time Walter Payton award winner
4-A ton of SoCon Championships
5-Several Coach of the Year
6-A great group of NFL players
7-MOST OF ALL...WAS A ROLE MODEL TO A LOT OF BOYS/MEN OVER THE PAST 24 YEARS. SEVERAL THAT ARE REAL CHRISTIANS AND HAVE HELPED CHANGE LIVES OF SOME PLAYERS WHO DIDN'T KNOW CHRIST.
Thank you Coach Moore for all you have done for Appalachian State Nation!!!!!! You will be missed.

I disagree. Charlie Cobb isnt stupid, he knows he screwed the pooch with Capel. And because he isnt insane, its not likely he'll make the same mistake twice.JCline0429 wrote: Amen. Charlie Cobb and Ken Peacock TOGETHER did what was best for Appalachian.

Then they should have had the guts to openly fire JM instead of disguising it as his decision. On second thought, maybe it was JM's decision to retire rather than being fired. What was best for Appalachian is an opinion not held by everyone. It's just that, an opinion.

I'll be happy when people get over the conspiracy theory crap, and we can just congratulate and thank JM on a great career, instead of looking to pin something on Cobb for doing something that the past 3 or 4 years certainly warranted.JCline0429 wrote:GlassOnion wrote:I disagree. With the kind of decisions CC makes he should go back to state where that is normal. Now that he and Peacock have made this bonehead move I hope someone else does the hire.

This is a very sad day. I have the greatest respect and admiration for Coach Moore and his lovely wife, Margaret. I wish them the very best and pray that the Lord will bless them abundantly.

Peacock and Cobb have done nothing but make this school a better place. Regardless of whether anyone of you would admit it, the sport of college football is a business. Sometimes you have to make business decisions that the public doesn't like.bcoach wrote:With the kind of decisions CC makes he should go back to state where that is normal.
