Pierre Banks
I was shopping at a Kroger's in Durham last month and had on an App shirt. Someone commented on my shirt and I asked about their connection to App. Turns out it was Daimeon Banks, Pierre's older brother. Nice guy that seemed to love App football as much as his own alma mater - Virginia State, where he played for a pretty good team in the CIAA.
Anywhoooo, he has a sports related website that also features Pierre Banks and some other folks as well. I have been meaning to pass this along for a few weeks.

This is my very generic signature added to each post.
Wearing ASU gear
First of all, I don't care if Arizona State is bigger than Appalachian State and has been in our conference forever while we're the newbies; it's ASU in Boone, and that's it. It's not "App State," which always rankles on my ancient ears that first learned to love ASTC; it's ASU. Take that, Arizona.
Second, I've learned that wearing a single piece of our black and gold gear when traveling almost always attracts a fellow Mountaineer or ASU fan, and the conversations and connections that follow are wonderful. An ASU ballcap, a t-shirt or sweatshirt, or one of our "A" pins will do the trick.
Third, I recently heard someone very high up in ASU administration pronounce "Yosef" to rhyme with "Joseph." Somebody isn't learning the ASU way.

I personally like App State. It is nationally recognized, distinctive, respectful and cannot be confused with any other school.

Re: Pierre Banks
It isn't "ASU" that opposing teams hear resounding through KBS while trying to run their offense.
It's
APP
STATE

Aaaaaahhhh, Pierre Banks.... One of the most exciting moments to ever happen in KBS when Pierre ran down that James Madison fumble and outfought their tight end for it. Loved that play as it exemplified exactly what type of fight App State football is all about !

I wear App gear all the time. Otherwise, I would be naked.
- On a trail in Yellowstone, meet a guy on the trail with an App cap on. He's from a town ten minutes from where I live (NC).
- Hiking in Colorado about 10,000 feet, meet some guys on the trail, "Hey, App State"!
- Walking downtown Breckenridge, CO, girl stops me on the sidewalk, "Hey, I went to App."
- (Exception) Sitting at sidewalk bar in Las Vegas, guy steps up and says, "You an Arizona fan?"
Main thing is to wear the colors with pride and don't do anything to embarrass them.

Re: Pierre Banks
I'm with you ASU73. App State still doesn't sound quite right to me, I graduated in '82 and back then we usually just said APP. Today when asked where I went to college I either say APP or APPALACHIAN but I never use APP STATE. Just a personal preference on that issue , but there is no exuse for misprouncing YOSEF, especially a university employee.

Re: Pierre Banks
I, for one, like the use of App State. If nothing else, it seems to have diminished the use of Appy. Too many other ASUs and App State has a distinctive quality that is not to be confused with a mountain chain that has multiple pronunciations or a power company in my neck of the woods.

ASU or App State...either way I'm ok...now if you mispronounce Appalachian....that's when I have an issue.

Re: Pierre Banks
September 2007 right after we beat Michigan I went to London and Paris for a week and I wore my yellow Appalachian State hoodie everywhere I went. Getting off the tube in London a guy walked over and asked if I went to App State to which I replied "Hell Yes!" and he said "I went to Michigan and I live here now. Man y'all kicked our ass and I've got to shake your hand!" In Paris a group of expats heading to the rugby tournament gave me high fives as I walked past the Eiffel Tower. It was awesome knowing that even across the pond App State was getting recognition!

I think this is a top 5 most famous play in App State football history.MDaniels84 wrote:Aaaaaahhhh, Pierre Banks.... Re: Pierre Banks
My favorite Pierre play was when he blindsided Chad Henne in the first quarter in '07. It squarely put the momentum on our side as it was our 1st defensive series after the game tying AE to Dexter TD.

That hit on Henne was one of my favorite Appalachian football plays ever....right up there with the field goal back in the 70's that carried ASU to a win over ECU.

Re: Pierre Banks
You guys don't forget that a sophomore LB Pierre Banks was in on 3 tackles of a goal line stand against FU in the 2005 playoffs at KBS that kept Ingle Martin and Jerome Felton out of the south end zone, (yes the same drive and stand that Ingle slipped down, that was the other down) and APP was able to march on to our first National Championship.

I was in San Fran ten days after NC three, walking near Fisherman's Wharf, wearing my App sweatshirt. I passed a guy wearing a Michigan sweater. He quietly said Appalachian State to himself. I turned around and replied, "Yes!" He walked on.
