Is @ UTk a money game?
For Law, Gray, Parker, Cox, Tyson and all the seniors, absolutely. Eat up tonight boys, that film will be used by NFL scouts in a few months!

Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
For all of these young men who have shed blood, sweat, and tears on the field, the answer to money game is a resounding NO ! By the way, I definitely see what you mean by money game for the seniors. App wants to win this game. Are they willing to pull out their whole play book to do so in the opener? That remains to be seen. However, I want to see us put EFFORT into every snap and let the chips fall where they may. Looking forward to this edition of App State Football. Dang, still 11 hours to kick.

Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
I hope that our approach to these games now is- it's another game on the schedule and we belong, as opposed to the money game aspect. We still have a ways to go. To me a next step would be to reach the level of a Houston. As I have watched ESPN this week the promos for this weekends games have included the Houston game. Once we reach that point we will have stepped up. I am not delusional to think we have a legit shot to win tonight but, like many of us I want to see us play competitively, avoid injury and keep it close. If we can minimize mistakes, apply pressure, stay in our lanes and control some clock anything is possible. I am so proud of our program. Kick ass!!

I don't want any to be confused. I DO NOT consider this a money game for our team.

I totally get that Saint. That is why I took it a different direction while pointing out how our seniors might just make some money in the NFL if they put their all into this game.Saint3333 wrote:I don't want any to be confused. I DO NOT consider this a money game for our team.

Good point. Blair's showing at Clemson last year had to have helped his stock.MDaniels84 wrote:I totally get that Saint. $1.3M... wow. A few of years ago, Tennessee paid Georgia State $500k. I wonder how long it takes for the Athletic Department to actually see that revenue?

Money games are for FCS schools. I've been listening to the college sports station on SiriusXM all week and I can tell you that both the coaches and pundits are looking forward to this game and are NOT considering it a money game/cupcake game in the least.

Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
These are exactly the type of games the seniors need to play well in to help raise their stock (see R.Blair Clemson 2015 and D.Jackson 2007).
Rek, where did you see that App was getting $1.3m? According to Bret Strelow at the W-SJ, "Appalachian will receive $1.15 million for its appearance at Tennessee and play in front of more than 100,000 fans for the third time in program history — the first two instances were the trips to Michigan."

It is a money game for the team, Satterfield has said as much. That doesn't mean we show up to be sacrificial lambs. But, $1.3m payout is something our athletic program needs. It is a chance to earn a decent paycheck and see what we are made of.

Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
I think the use of the words "money game" is meant two ways. There are schools that go play the big boys strictly for the payout in order to fund their programs and realize they have no shot at winning. With us I think it's more of, we are playing UT and we are going there to win...and we get to collect a nice check for the effort. Even though back in '07 we might have said the right things it was more for the payday.hapapp wrote:It is a money game for the team, Satterfield has said as much. Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
I am not expecting a win, would love one but not expecting it. I just hope that the team comes away healthy with some good experience they can apply against all other opponents this season. The $1.3 million is wonderful, and feel confident that DG will spend it in the right places.

To answer your question Saint Yes, this is a potential future earnings showcase game for the above players.
More importantly I feel all the teams, up till now, have built the sturdiest of foundations for this team to stand on. Now in 2016 because of a fortuitous schedule this year’s 2016 Appalachian State team has an unprecedented golden moment before them. From what I see of the future schedules no others offer as large of chance on the stage, today is our opportunity. This year is the one many of us have waited, strived and even bled for in the hopes that we may witness the building of a new powerhouse brand on the national stage. I remember a long time ago a popular TV analyst calling Appalachian State a Sleeping Giant, with this I have always agreed. In my very humble opinion this year’s squad is the team to awaken the giant, today! Get it done boys become legendary, today! Today * I give my all.

Re: Is @ UTk a money game?
Wanted to pose a question but not necessarily on a new thread. What would happen tonight to cause many of us to say, "oh crap we are not what we think we are"?
If we get Va Tech type beat down, can't stop them, can't establish any offense, can't put on any pressure and can't block. I don't expect this to happen and these failures are extreme. How bad would it have to be before we really worry about the remainder of the year?

The score really doesn't concern me in the first game. Anything can happen. Injuries, on the other hand, would make for a sphincter-tightening adventure going forward.bigdaddyg wrote:Wanted to pose a question but not necessarily on a new thread.
