"Appalachian State athletic director Doug Gillin issued a statement Thursday apologizing for any incident that was created when the Hurricanes took the field at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday, and both schools appear ready to move on from the matter.

"On behalf of Appalachian State University, we apologize to all those impacted by the situation created as the teams took the field prior to kickoff on Saturday," Gillin's statement read. "

Maybe I'm the only one seeing it like this, but this doesn't say Gillin apologized for a false report being brought against Miami degrading their really great name brand they've worked hard to build. This just simply says Gillin apologized for the situation that happened and all those involved. Quite honestly I'm sorry it happened too and hate that it happened or affected all of those involved. Doesn't mean it did or did not happen though - I have no clue.

At the end of the day - it is smelling more and more like a made up story, but it doesn't mean the Miami football team wasn't still wrong (or dare I say - stupid). It's pretty obnoxious to run through the band and it's not like they didn't have plenty of warning to see where they were running (at least those at the front of the pack). Need to exercise a bit more brain power there.

Your sarcasm is noted. We happen to have a clean program, cleaner than most due to the constant bullseye the NCAA has on us. And our "name brand" was good enough to be your biggest home game ever, and apparently help ABC liquors sell 70,000 dollars in alcohol, which speaks well for your name brand, too. Perhaps someone should contact Mr. Gillin to clarify what his apology actually was FOR, since as you say he was garbled and unclear, but I DOUBT he will ever admit that his side fabricated this attack story, even with video evidence proving it was a fabrication. You say you can't know if a sexual assault did or did not happen on the field, where supposedly Mariah Martin-Eller was knocked to the ground, surrounded, and groped by multiple dreadlocked Miami Hurricane players? The video shows it didn't happen, cops were there, no Canes player even came to a STOP until they were at midfield, and certainly no group of them surrounded a color guard member. She first claimed they almost bumped her, and then exaggerated to a full blown gang rape right there on the field. I know you will never take the word of a Cane, but it didn't happen.

As for claiming that WE were the wrong and stupid ones for AVOIDING contact with the band, as five or sixe veered into the back row of band members to avoid a collision, rather than accepting blame for having the ENTIRE canes side of the field littered with obstructions, when they could have taken ten steps forward after the parachutist's landed (ten steps in ten minutes, not too tough for a group used to marching in line) sounds like a real stretch.

Miami is nationally raked through the coals for an attack that was made up, she gets away with it, but it is still our fault for having five or six guys NOT do the Stanford band takedown on your guys. If this was inversed, I am sure you would see that the punishment does not fit the crime,since no craime even occurred. You know what, your band director, that spent more time calling us notorious SCUM than he did planning for the entrance of the opposing team in the biggest home game in his school's history, is the one that "Need to exercise a bit more brain power there."

It was important and worthy of discussion, you didn't spread anything that wasn't already known to your board members, I am sure. I know Rekdiver says we should stop talking about it until thae admins and the girl have had their say, well both admins found NO FAULT with Miami (even if yosef did), and the girl has in a cowardly way hidden her posting, which I guess is all she thinks she needs to do to make it all go away. We were accused of trying to sweep it under the rug, but it looks like she is the one doing the sweeping.

Matthew Haney sentenced to two years probation for filing a false police report.

Sophie Randleman and Mariah Martin-Eller, I hope you have lawyered up, it appears there is a precedent at ASU for you to get charged. Think of the dollars wasted by school investigations, police investigations, and damage to Miami's already "notoriously scum" reputation thanks to these two lying weasels. What they did was no different than he did, tried to cover up embarrassing bad news by hallucinating a crime based on what was the hot topic that month. She took down her two facebook posts that attacked Miami, but has yet to offer a retraction, apology, or explanation for her actions. I hope the police and media go after her with as much fervor as they did those horrible dreadlocked black men she claims assaulted her.

I wouldn't call that one (2008) a national firestorm. We've had a few hoaxes in the last decade. That kid wanted to commit insurance fraud and report a phony break in. He made the mistake of telling the cops that the guy was armed and that he ran toward campus, which prompted a lock down and a panic in the wake of the VT shooting.

We had two football players falsely accused of sexual assault. They were vindicated to the tune of a civil settlement with the school.

We had another rape hoax a year or two ago. The girl finally confessed to making it up when she realized her claim was taking valuable police resources away from the search for an actual missing student at the time.

Kids make stuff up. The Missou student who claimed a truck full of Klansmen chased him around in a pick up truck, which started a national race debacle on college campuses and ended up getting the chancellor fired, was a complete hoax. Duke lacrosse was a hoax (although that was a ghetto stripper rather than a student). The UVA rape story where the girl carried her mattress around campus in protest was a lie.

Sorry about the Miami thing but the world forgot about this incident 30 minutes after innitially reading about it. Hardly a national firestorm and hardly unique.

Which is it, talk about it before or after? Well, it is going to have to be after, because Miami did NOTHING wrong, and Gillin even admitted that we were not the ones trying to brush it under the rug as Sophie and her minions claimed.

If we HAD committed a sexual assault on your campus, would you be saying you just want it to go away? You say it doesn't help either of us, but young men were accused of a very serious crime, and deserve an apology from the accuser. Yes, I am keeping this alive, because it has not concluded yet, just as the Mathew Haney case was not concluded until his sentencing. And yes, we have our own message board, but nobody there is siding with the accuser and claiming it was all Miami's fault and that we are all scum and that by cutting through the band we deserved this attack. It seems we agree over there that this woman and her minions attempted to do damage to Miami, their players, and their city by claiming we are all dreadlocked animals unable to pass by a white woman without groping them.
