Satterfield had no "Deal"

Unread post by TheMoody1 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 4:57 pm

Several folks keep talking about Satterfield having some sort of deal to become HC after Jerry retires. There never was a deal.

http://blowingrocknews.com/sports-a-rec ... icate.html

"Satterfield was candid with reporters in saying that one of the motivating factors in the timing of this return to ASU was to enhance his chances of becoming the next head coach when Jerry Moore decides to retire. "I hope Coach Moore is here for a long time. I want to do as much as I can do on the campus of ASU, out in the community, with the alumni, with the fan base, with everything. I want to do as much as I can possibly do to help this university, number one, and hopefully I prove to people I am ready when Coach Moore decides it is enouigh for him (and he retires)."

Clarifying, Satterfield told reporters that there is no deal in place for him to eventually replace Moore as head coach, but he received assurances from Athletics Director Charlie Cobb that he would be given an opportunity to compete for the position."

And if he doesn't get the job I see him leaving, despite everything else he has said about his passion for ASU. He wants this job, and probably feels he has earned it (note - earned not ENTITLED). Unless he really does love it at ASU and is willing to wait out the career of the next coach we hire.

If Horton gets the HC position then I could see Satt staying, otherwise I think he'll probably move on if he doesn't get the HC gig.

Wonder if Satterfield will have the same lapse of memory like Jerry?

I'll almost guarantee that Scott stays if Horton is hired. Horton has been rumored to like Scott to be his OC at his first HC gig because he coached Scott. If that is true, then I think the Horton hire makes more sense than it already does knowing that if we hire Horton that we keep both and if we hire Scott then we don't get Horton.

One thing to remember is that Scott's wife was home sick and wanted out of Florida. Scott loves ASU and really does need a few more years of seasoning. I am 90% sure that if Horton is hired as HC that Scott will stay.

Many of those saying there was a deal also said that Shawn Elliott would be the next HC. My point with this is that if you think there was a deal you don't truly know and are guessing. No deal and thus Scott won't feel snubbed. He has been interviewed and that's all he was told would happen. Cobb has held up his end of the deal by interviewing him this past weekend.

Given Cobb's concern for Moore's health expressed in the Dec letter the assistant coach title may have just been intended to take some of the day to day burden off of coach. It is clear that cobb was concerned that 2011 had taken a toll on Moore. Having said this with the assistant coach contract situation I will be surprised if Satt is not announced soon.

I am new to App Football.............but have been going to games for 5 years.....but I question why would SS leave a Division 1 program to come here for a FCS program unless the HC opportunity was at least men
tion , and he felt he had a strong opportunity to move into the position.....maybe I am wrong
