If you are up to a little longer drive, Banner Elk winery is the best in the area. They have an awesome fire pit that you can sit and drink the really good wine. The cheese fries at Murphys are to die for.
A bit of useful info on Daniel Boone. They have take out boxes. Dinner box - two pieces of chicken, two sides, two ham biscuits and a dessert. Lunch box- same minus ham biscuits. $7.50 and $6.50. Dinner box is way more than most people want to eat. The line can be around the building and you can call in a box and walk in and get it. Both available any time of day. My daughter turned me on to this little known tidbit.
I did not know that. If I did I would have had that waaayyyy to much when I was a student.

Lost Province (Good pizza and bear); Coyote Kitchen (Southwest-inspired menu); Mast General Store.

Also, the Boone Farmers Market is a great stop on a Saturday morning (8 - 12)- local produce and baked goods, coffee, etc. As a bonus, it is adjacent to Hickory Ridge Museum (by Horn in the West Amphitheater) that features cabins from 1700's and reenactors/guides. The museum is open and free to walk through, though donations are greatly appreciated.

The Valle Crucis area is also nice - rolling hills, beautiful park (if you have time to enjoy it), the original Mast General Store

Looks like weather may be good, so lunch or happy hour at Canyons Bar with an extraordinary view of our Blue Ridge Mountains on the outdoor deck. I'd vote for supper at Gamekeeper ($$$). Gamekeeper is located on one of our many narrow mountain roads, so drive carefully. And our local law officers occasionally enjoy traffic stops along the road, so have a designated driver!! Another good choice in town is Best Cellars.
Saturday is game day and that means Boone! Start early, maybe have NC Country Ham and Redeye gravy and biscuits for breakfast at Dan'l Boone Inn (or a biscuit from Bojangles, a local NC based fast food joint). then walk on King Street (Boone's Main Street), visit Mast General Store. Time to walk across campus and visit some tailgates. Get inside Kidd Brewer Stadium in time to see the Marching Mountaineers pre game show. And enjoy the game (other than the final score). Post game, take in a local brewery! Safe travels, glad you're coming! Go Apps!
Surprised it wasn't mentioned sooner! :)

A few places I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Rivers Street Ale House- Nice place with lots of TVs and a pretty big deck, pretty much right on campus. I've only had their burgers, but I thought they were great. Really good drink specials as well. Might be a little too student/frat oriented, but not a big deal.

TApp Room- Great beer selection. Really good tacos. Their Saturday special is the Eye Opener Burger, which is fantastic. It's right across from the Holmes Convocation Center (basketball arena, you can't miss it coming into town)

Coyote Kitchen: One of my favorite restaurants in town. Burritos, "boats", tacos, burgers, and brews. Kind of a hippie-Tex-Mex kinda place, a little hidden over by the Walmart.

Welcome to NC and especially to Boone. Make sure you layer your clothing game day. Temp can swing many degrees. For a quick short visit to our neck of the woods, I would suggest a drive on US 221 South, out of Blowing Rock to the Grandfather Mountain exit and get on the Blue Ridge Parkway heading back north exiting at US 321 back to Boone. The views along those two roads is just plain awesome. A hike around Price Lake on the parkway is nice as well.

Game day, wander through the tailgating lots near the stadium and our fans will make sure your party is fed quite well.

Travel safe and welcome to Appalachian State Football.

Head to AMB for beer. Don't waste your time and money at Lost Province (not Paradise) as they easily have the worst beer out of the home town breweries.

TApp Room has the best selection of craft beer on tap.

Basil's has fresh pasta/sauces and sandwiches and also serves as the "unofficial" tap room for Booneshine brewing.

The Cardinal has a wide range of burgers, beer, bourbon and cocktails. One of our newest spots, definitely work checking out.

Drive up to Howard's Knob, just behind King Street, to get an incredible view of the town and campus. You can even see The Rock, where your Bobcats will get stomped.
