It's been pretty brutal for the Black and Gold lately- Horrible early home playoff losses the past several years, PR disasters, watching the exodus of our assistant coaches to Western, getting snubbed by FBS conferences last May while freaking UNC-Concord got in without a team. Watching a Watauga High grad rewrite the conference record book- for Wofford. Alleged sexual assaults, cover-ups, a controversial departure of our most successful coach ever, and finally making it back on ESPN only because of a free throw gone wrong.
But... Alas...could things be turning around? Tomorrow we welcome our new coach, a true Mountaineer who has been instrumental in our rise to prominence. We bring back a very exciting and talented team next year along with what promises to be an amazing recruiting class in the works. We have never been closer to an FBS invitation, which may be only days away and our university is in the middle of a very successful fundraising drive,
New coach, new recruits, new classification, new excitement! Brighter days are ahead. It's great to be a Mountaineer!
