Personally, I thought they did a decent, but not great, job of staying neutral. The only problem I had was he called us "State" a couple times.GreatAppSt wrote:DG please don't let today's anti App color guy darken our doorstep again. Was he a Troy grad?

Color analyst was bad, but I can live with that, as I kind of expect it on ESPN3. What I can't handle is the terrible camera work. I can tell what's happening without the announcers telling me, but not when the camera can't find the guy with the ball.

The quality seemed a bit dfferent than what we have seen previously. Had a very amateurish feel. Does ESPN actually do the camera work for the 3 broadcasts? No commercials seemed odd too.EastHallApp wrote:Color analyst was bad, but I can live with that, as I kind of expect it on ESPN3. What I can't handle is the terrible camera work. Re: espn 3
Previously I have been pleased with the ESPN3 broadcasts - this one had real problems - poor resolution, kept cutting off, had to reboot several times, etc., of course, that was after all I could initially was the Ohio State game - have no idea why this one had so many problems???

Re: espn 3
I guess I was "fortunate" that I watched the game on replay Saturday night. I didn't get any other games on my feed, but yet still had some difficulties with the broadcast staying on the whole time. Wasn't sure if that was ESPN3 which I felt like it was or if it was the internet feed bandwidth that I had in Foscoe.

Bottom line. It is not real TV it is internet. They don't have the amount of income from commercials that real TV has. If they don't have the income they are not going to spend the money. You will not get the good camera people and you will not get the experienced announcers. You will not get the best equipment to broadcast the games. Sometimes it will be ok and sometimes it will be horrible like this week. It is what it is but will never be espn, espn 2, or espn U. BUT it will be there. This particular time there were no commercials at all so we got the bottom of the barrel which was much more than was paid for(:

Do you guys think the broadcast was delivered as intended? I sure don't. It was a mess, but I don't think that was by design. There were clearly massive technical difficulties.

Folks, there's a better than average chance that you were watching an in-house production with students running the show.

Re: espn 3
Of course they didn't intend to produce such a mess. They just didn't have the support to correct it. The announcers are a different story. They are who they are. A star player does not make you a talented broadcaster.appchicago wrote:Do you guys think the broadcast was delivered as intended? I sure don't. It was a mess, but I don't think that was by design. Doesn't say anything about football, but who knows. I did think more than once that it seemed like an AV student was operating the main camera.asufan87 wrote:Folks, there's a better than average chance that you were watching an in-house production with students running the show.

Re: espn 3
I remember reading something a couple of years ago that essentially stated if espn3 covers an event and the school has a student department that films games, then espn3 would use the college feed. I have noticed this on some of our other games in the past. I am not sure if this is still the policy but it would sure explain the issues (filming only) on Saturday.
