Expressing a consumer based opinion of the price of an object is not putting down the idea. I didn't see one post saying it's a dumb idea or not needed, just simple observations and questions. I expressed my observations, however still intend to contribute to help get this tent.

Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
After reading about the development of the tent and the students forming a company to produce and market it I am not surprised by the cost. As they produce more and streamline the process I'm sure the cost will drop.

Is this appeal going out to other boards? Could the Yosef Club send out a email to donors telling them of our efforts as an FYI?

Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
I agree with a few of the folks who are simply pointing out that the cost seems a bit ridiculous. To say that an advantage is the ease of putting it up is a justification for the cost is funny. Has anyone ever noticed the number of personnel on the sidelines doing nothing? That being said if anyone wants to spearhead an effort to buy anything for the program go for it. I tend to agree with the point about the medical provider and the free advertising.

The Yosef Club would likely prefer that we focus on fully funding athletic scholarships before fund raisers like this. I don't mean to put down any efforts to help support App State in any facet, but I've not lost sight of what I consider our first priority.Rekdiver wrote:Is this appeal going out to other boards? All I will say Is YES, Doug and Brian talked to trainers BEFORE I went forward with this... They definitely want it. It also packs up into the size that is easily transported.Yosef'sMountaineer wrote:Has anyone checked to make sure that the sports medicine staff actually wants this? Not the ADs. The actual people who you think would use it.
I can speak with very high certainty that non-football medical staffs will not use it. Soccer was specifically mentioned. The seasons occur at the same time as football, so it couldn't be stored at the soccer complex. The thing would be such a pain in the butt to move back and forth that it would not be worth using at all. There are essentially already vision-reduced benches at the soccer field, so there isn't really a confidentiality issue.
With that being said, if the football medical staff wants it... shoot... go for it. I'm glad the sports medicine department is getting some attention, and I'm sure they would graciously accept any donation. Perhaps this money should be unassigned?

Since you are taking this on yourself, would you have a say in the design or will DG get to decide? Good either way, but I think you should have some say since this is your thing.YesAppCan wrote:All I will say Is YES, Doug and Brian talked to trainers BEFORE I went forward with this... It's whatever DG and staff go with... I don't want any publicity or input... Just want them to have it.

Sometimes it takes making the candy look sweeter to make people buy it. This effort will not take one cent away from my $2500/year donation to Yosef.Saint3333 wrote:The Yosef Club would likely prefer that we focus on fully funding athletic scholarships before fund raisers like this. " A group of Yosef's Cabin posters have banded together to raise additional funds in past for our strength and conditioning staff. Now they have asked if they could raise funds for a specific tent for the training and medical staff to use on the sidelines. This item in not a budgeted item for the program and the group wanted to let other know of their efforts."
I see this no different that the baseball team raising funds

That sounds great then. Great idea. I still wouldn't hold my breath expecting any real use outside of football once the novelty wears off.YesAppCan wrote:All I will say Is YES, Doug and Brian talked to trainers BEFORE I went forward with this... You should approach Dr. Ekman through App Ortho. I would expect some interest in a sponsorship.

Respectable...Personally, I think it would be cool to have the "Today I give my ALL for Appalachian State" picture on the tent.YesAppCan wrote:It's whatever DG and staff go with... I don't want any publicity or input... Just want them to have it.

Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
I'll be contributing after I recover from Christmas. I definitely like the idea of finding sponsorship for the tent (I'm looking at you Novant) especially considering App has upcoming games in Charlotte and Winston-Salem. They could possibly sponsor a couple of tents for men's and women's programs.

They do not actually provide any regular medical services to the athletes. You would be asking medical providers to work in a tent, have photos taken, and have live TV cameras showing them with the logo of a directly competing organization.moonshine wrote:I'll be contributing after I recover from Christmas. Expecting any program but football to use these is unrealistic.

Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
What makes it unrealistic for soccer, track or field hockey to utilize a tent? Those players suffer injuries during competition and I'd think they could utilize the tent just as easily as the football program. Now obviously, football would likely take precedence over the other sports if they happen to have games at the same time.

YesAppCan didn't do this fly by night. He has covered all the bases including one's mentioned throughout this thread. He has already stated that sponsorship is not possible. From one of his previous posts: I agree BUT... Can't from my end due to agreement with IMG.Yosef'sMountaineer wrote:That sounds great then. Great idea. Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
I think you're reading more into my post than intended. I enjoy seeing anyone raise money to support App in any facet, business school, music program, etc. But the Yosef Club (not athletic department) will likely not want to solicit fund raising for other efforts than raising money for athletic scholarship.YesAppCan wrote:Sometimes it takes making the candy look sweeter to make people buy it. Re: Athletic Sideline Treatment Tent
Before I send money to any charitable entity, I ask questions. Haven't criticized at all. I was a trainer and coach for over a decade, thus know how hard it is to compete for funding within the athletic department. I know nothing about the tent concept and haven't claimed to.hbk999 wrote:Good luck @Yes. Thanks for your financial support and your thoughtfulness.
