DB Anthony Covington - could be a starter right away and replace a certain "burnt toast" safety.

LB George Vinson - possible starter and DJ Smith like Fresh impact player

RB - Terrance Upshaw - Guy runs big for his size and has serious speed.

LB/DE - Nathaniel Norwood - knows how to get in the backfield and would make a very fast pass rushing DE

QB - Taylor Lamb - looks like the real deal and depth is an issue at QB. Will only get better and played in a complex offense in HS

Tie for 6th with the York Boys - Beau Nunn will be a beast and Lee Wright has too much speed and aggressiveness not to be an impact player right away.

Overall the best class I have seen on paper. Very special group of players. Hard to even name a top 6 because every kid brings something special to the table.

Covington is a college CB if im not mistaken.

Yeah not sure where Covington ends up. ESPN had him as 51st ranked Safety and the scouting reporting talked about his strong Zone defense play. Rivals has him as the 63rd ranked CB. Not sure where he will play.

A preferred walk-on is just first in line should a scholarship open up. Doesn't mean they will get it but they are at the top of the list. They are also in line for a partial, as long as we are FCS. But really any walk-on can play their way into a scholarship if they are good enough or fill a critical need.

Hopefully it takes more than blocking a kick for a walkon to get a scholly now.

With the shear numbers we've got coming in I would think it would take a lot more.

Kind of a cheap shot there. Let's remember these are people we are talking about.

And BTW, how the hell many did Wofford graduate this year. Their little @TerrierTracker is talking about how we are done at 14 (wrong as we've got others already here) and they are saying they lost Pinckney to us but that they are on their way to 25 signees. Wofford? 25? Would love to see the quality of players. I know Stewart is very good but his best friend, the PP QB they are converting to CB is just funny. Still 25 is hard to believe for an FCS school with only 64 schollies. Unless he's counting walk-ons also, which if that's the case we are going to be over 30. Can't wait to see the rest of them.

firemoose,
here is a link to football site with 18 signed so far with an expected 25 total. http://athletics.wofford.edu/news/2013/ ... h=football

this does not include walk-ons. the quality is definitely there, probably one of the best classes ever.

i think the quality has been good enough... the last couple of years. ;)

have a good signing day celebration. i know we will!

GO TERRIERS!!!

I'm just saying we need to make sure guys can consistantly produce before giving out scholarships. This is especially true as long as we are in FCS and only have 63. IMHO Carl Anderson is the type of guy that deserves to get a scholarship. There are others but he is this first that came to mind.

I don't necessarily disagree with the statement, I just think it's time to move on. That young man has caught enough grief already. I also realize your reference has more to do with coaching decisions than player performance but I'm feeling optimistic today. :D

DE Kingsley Ejike (6-3, 210) of Newton High School in Covington, Ga. ... committed to Georgia State (posted Jan. 26, 2013); Rivals stars: none

Understand he was supposed to sign with Georgia State, believe he came here on a visit but chose GaSt, but they say he is signing with UAB now.

So why are we signing these high school players and giving them scholarships? Evidentally all it takes for them is highlight footage and some stars. The young man who I assume you're talking about more than earned his scholarship with his special teams play. I think your problem is actually with him "earning" and keeping a starting defensive back position. Those are two different things and there were circumstances caused by injury that caused him to have to start before he may have been ready. I would like to think that if there someone better then they would have been playing. There are scholarship players who never start a down on offense or defense. There may be some in this recruiting class. They still contribute, if only on special teams, and deserve a scholarship.
WE ARE YOSEF!

Speaking of stars according to the Boston Herald we have 6 guys that garnered 3 stars at various different sites.

The more I read on Lamb the more I get exited about this kid.

It's an extremely talented group of young men making their way up the mountain. I think Satt and crew acquitted themselves quite well for their first recruitment round. I'm already looking forward to the 100 Day Countdown. :D

Props to firemoose and 78. I usually don't bother with recruitment news, but you two made this year a fun one to keep up with. On to 2014!

Great job 78 and Firemoose!! You two did a tremendous job and now I am ready for football season.

My Top 6:

1. Taylor Lamb (Always good to get a solid QB) Plus is a coach's son which is a bonus.
2. George Vinson (Very good linebacker and was a good get) Rutgers came hard after him late.
3. Parker Collins (Really good Offensive Guard who could be ready to play immeadiately)
4. Terrance Upshaw (Very good running back and great late surprise/addition to this class)
5. Anthony Covington (Plethora of BCS offers and is a versatile DB)
6. Lee Wright (Very good get and underrated IMO. Versatile and is a player who can have an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball. Only one full season on defense. High upside.)

I'm good friends with Karl and if I remember correctly, he was on scholarship for a couple years prior to this breakout season because of his special teams play (fumble recoveries at UTC in 2010 and vs. Nova in 2011.) He is foregoing his final year of eligibility to concentrate on getting his MBA.

As for the player in question, he plays well against the triple option and closer to the line of scrimmage. He was just forced into an awful spot this year because of injuries to Middleton (starter) and Alex Gray (2 deep.)

Yes, he had bad games down the stretch, but let's go back to when he blocked those kicks against Jacksonville and everyone was calling him the second coming of Corey Lynch. Unfortunately, football is a what have you done for me lately sport, but let's not act like the kid just randomly fell onto a scholarship. He earned it.

I'm was going to answer this more correctly now that my mind is a little clearer. And I was typing my usual long winded answer when I figured there had to be an easier way. So here it is.

http://recruiting-101.com/what-is-the-d ... d-walk-on/

This article is mainly addressing FBS programs (note the lack of reference to a partial scholarship) but everything else applies.
