Tony from Charlotte
After most games during the 5th quarter Q&A part of the broadcast Tony from Charlotte calls in and asks a question. He is usually the first caller. He is just that type of fan.
Does anyone know Tony? I have one spare ticket and I remembered, almost to late, that I had hoped to get Tony to this game, even before tickets were on sale and I knew I had a ticket.
A few years ago David Jackson mentioned getting Tony to a game in Boone and maybe into see the broadcast booth and I think Tony was VERY excited. This may have been the last game David Jackson called for us so DJ, as fas I know, never had a chance to follow up on this.
I have no idea if Tony gets to any games and I assume Tony is not on this board. Tony if you are on this board then PM as soon as you can.

Have you tried getting in touch with the group that puts on the show? I am sure they record the number of all the calls into the show. They may be able to put you in contact with him. Classy move by the way.

Re: Tony from Charlotte
I emailed Pierre Banks back in very early January about doing all I can (donate a few dollars if needed) to take care of Tony as far as getting him into the game. Pierre said he would look into it. It was forgotten about until I emailed Pierre back Sunday. Pierre did some digging in the audio archives today it sounded like and found a phone number and texted Tony. I have not heard back yet
His needs may be more than just giving him a ticket, but I do really want him at the game if at all possible. He seems to love App football and for that I love Tony from Charlotte.
I'll keep everyone posted. If this falls through maybe we can arrange to get him to Boone, if that is possible.

Re: Tony from Charlotte
I just received an email from Pierre and it seems Tony from Charlotte is now Tony from Greenville, NC. So there is no way to get him to the game.
So my challenge to anyone in the Greensville, NC area. Help get Tony to a future game in Boone. I can help with a bit of gas money/food money/ticket purchase. I don't know Tony and have no idea of any needs he may have, but my gut tells me he is an App fan that maybe never gets to games.

Call or e-mail DJ at the Boone Chamber of Commerce. I suspect he has a better handle on Tony's situation than anyone. DJ's counterpart in the Greenville/Pitt Chamber can probably locate Tony in fairly short order and assess possibilities.

Re: Tony from Charlotte
I had thought about that but I am not sure how raw DJ is as it relates to App State. He better be a homer for Boone given his job with the CoC.asu66 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:52 pmCall or e-mail DJ at the Boone Chamber of Commerce. But I trust you with all things App so if you think this might be a good idea then I will do so.

Re: Tony from Charlotte
I just know he calls in a lot or has in years past. He was usually first up. The way he handled himself on the radio gave me the impression he has some special needs, though I could be off base on this.
I have no idea how he connected with App as it is so easy to be a fan of UNC-CHEAT or NC State but he seemed to really love App football. Maybe he has family connections.
I don't know why I became attached to hearing from Tony but I looked forward to hearing from him when I had time to listen to the post game radio. And it speaks to DJ and the character of the App family that he often was caller number one. Maybe one reason I enjoyed hearing from Tony is it usually happened as I was listening on the way down the mountain from a game I was able to attend and I don't get to every game myself due to a variety of reasons.
I distinctly remember DJ offering to get him to a game in Boone and it seems you could just see Tony's delight come through in his reaction over the radio. Maybe my memory is off on his reaction but that is what I remember.

I am glad someone else knows of Tony and it is not a figment of my imagination.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:16 amYeah, death, taxes, and Tony leading off the post game show. Classy move, hope you get a hold of.him!
Pierre Banks emailed me today and wrote that Tony and his dad has expressed interest in attending a game. I am not sure if they have in the past but I guess them reaching out on my behalf got the ball rolling.
Pierre said they are looking into it. I emailed back that I was going to post this information on YC and that I was expecting to be made aware of what happens if only to help chip in on the costs if that is indeed needed. I don't want the price of admission, travel to and from Greenville and a meal or two get in the way of Tony getting to a game in Boone. I assume some others on YC would be willing to chip in a few dollars as well. It is not that expensive but costs do add up and I have no idea what Tony and his family's situation is to be honest.
I'll keep everyone posted if something does develop.

Re: Tony from Charlotte
My postgame routine used to be playing on the field with my son, but now that the school limits that, we usually get to the car in time to catch the back end of interviews and the call in portion as we head over to The Rock for wings/beer. Never fails to hear that guy as the first caller up. I have a special appreciation for the App fans that may not have any direct affiliation/Alumni.
