Hurricane & Southern Miss game

Unread post by AppNation85 » Sat Sep 08, 2018 6:40 pm

Hurricane Florence is headed towards the Carolinas (probably). I know Coastal is already talking about canceling their game next weekend. Anyone got any inside info about whether our admin is concerned about it affecting us as well?

If the hurricane does make landfall on the Brunswick County coast as a true Category 4, I think there is a real chance that we could see some bad weather coming our way in Boone.

The direct impacts to western NC seem limited at this time, but you may have issues with game day infrastructure (EMT, police, etc) being needed in the eastern part of the state.

Still a long way to go in forecasting this one though.

It's too early to call Florence the second comin' of Hugo but it's not too early to be concerned. The memory of Hugo's "cone" exactly 29 years ago (plus/minus a few short days) is still with me. Florence doesn't look very different from Hugo four or five days out. We drove away from Wild Dunes 48 hours before Hugo's landfall only to have the big guy take a half-dozen huge trees down in our yard near Moravian Falls a few days later (300+ miles north and west of WDunes).

I just checked the latest maps. An extreme low pressure system did appear directly over Chapel Hill yesterday.
