Football scheduling
Pretty wild how these football powers became powers via innovation scheduling.

Re: Football scheduling
If UCF were really interested in playing the Gators, they would just take the 2-1 deal. This is just the latest in a long line of marketing by the UCF AD. I will give him credit though, he is controlling the narrative and that helps keep the Knights in the public eye.

Re: Football scheduling
UCF annoys me with their arrogance... Self-declared P6 conference and national championship. And they expect a home-and-home game against a school with over double the attendance. If Wake had over double our attendance, I gaurantee they wouldn't play us without extenuating circumstances.

I agree 100%. Wouldn't be mad to see LSU kick their assappvette wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 11:06 pmUCF annoys me with their arrogance... Self-declared P6 conference and national championship. Re: Football scheduling
They are starting to annoy me. Well, they have been annoying me since their “parade” last year.
I tried to think if I would act this way if App was in their shoes, but I realized I wouldn’t. I would be saying “anytime, any place” and be begging teams to play us.

Re: Football scheduling
If I were Florida AD I would play them 1 game in Jacksonville, travel expenses only. If ucf wins they get a home and home deal, lose and it is "shut the h--- up and quit bothering me".

Re: Football scheduling
From what I understand it wasn’t a true 2 for 1. It was a 2 + neutral. So actually I think it’s marketing by UF to make it seem like they gave UCF a shot but actually they just offered a terrible deal knowing they wouldn’t take it.

Re: Football scheduling
It's the same deal they offered USF. It's not UF that is the culprit here, they aren't going to give up their game day gate for a G5. Just more marketing g by UCF AD, bc if he wanted to really play UF they would.

Re: Football scheduling
I think UCF has a legit argument. And yes, we would be just like them if in the same boat. Had we beat Tenn last year and then Penn this year....and went undefeated, we would be screaming to be included in the playoff. Just like we all screamed for them to rank us...or for us to have a NY6 bowl.... Don't be jealous folks. They've earned it.

Re: Football scheduling
And I think we would be just a misguided as they are. They have not earned the right to be in the playoff and they have not earned the right to DEMAND home and home contracts with top level SEC teams. They have simply beaten who is on their schedule which is all any team can do.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:31 pmI think UCF has a legit argument. Re: Football scheduling
I'll disagree. I think with the school of their size and their record, they've earned at least a shot. They are the hot commodity right now. If UF wants to run from them then so be it. I can't blame them one bit for taking a stand. Status quo isn't always what's best.goapps93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:38 pmAnd I think we would be just a misguided as they are. Re: Football scheduling
No problem disagreeing. I just don't think they've played near the schedule that the P5s play. We have to be honest about that. If I were Florida I wouldn't want to give up another game in my much bigger stadium.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:51 pmI'll disagree. I get that also...... What I do like is that Boise, and now UCF are helping to change the rules for us as we rise....goapps93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:54 pmNo problem disagreeing. Re: Football scheduling
It isn't about what is "earned". I see this a lot here. It's about who is best. UCF would likely be demolished by Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame. The Oklahoma game would be close because OU's defense rarely get's off the bus. UCF doesn't deserve to be in a 4-team playoff but the FBS deserves an 8-slot playoff system.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:51 pmI'll disagree. Re: Football scheduling
Lest we forget, UCF was 0-12 not long ago and their historical performance suggests that they are in a peak right now. They will return to their baseline relatively soon.

Socialist separate the haves and have nots.
Glad to see someone fighting!
Cheers to Boise and UCF and long live the Mountaineers!
Bust the NCAA D1, ESPN, Bowl Alliances and the like CABAL!
16 team playoff less one regular season game and stop the enabling of DIVISIONS in big conferences putting a skewed performer in the mix....ala 2018 Pittsburgh in the ACC.....if conference wants a title Championship game have 1 & 2 play each other.....same for SunBelt....this year we should have played Troy for title game.

Re: Football scheduling
That 0-12 was a massive outlier, as you presumably know. They beat Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl not long before that, and of course beat Auburn last year. But of course people can keep throwing out the “they’d get crushed by (playoff team X)” line, and as long as they aren’t allowed in, there’s no way to disprove it.
Hey guess what, Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan State and others have all been blown out in CFP or BCS games recently. Yet no one seems to mind letting them back in.

Re: Football scheduling
Scheduling contracts have nothing to do with "earning it". Just like any free market, each school is only responsible for doing what's best for themselves. Every away game has an opportunity cost to the school that they could have otherwise earned by playing at home. Assuming each fan is worth $50 in revenue (tickets, concessions, souvenirs, etc.) University of Florida makes $4.25M for each home game and UCF makes $1.9M. UF isn't going to say "gee, UCF is pretty good this year so we will trade something valued at $4.25M for something that is valued at $1.9M". A 2-for-1 deal would roughly be fair or else UF can play two home games paying the opponents $1.5M each and make $5.5M whereas a home-and-home with UCF would net them only $4.25M. Add in the fact that UCF has more to gain from a branding perspective in the home-and-home and it would be stupid for UF to agree to it.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:51 pmI'll disagree.
