When my grandfather came back from WWII, he drove a Coke truck in Cabarrus County and surrounding areas until retirement. He used to have a sweet Coke icebox on the back porch where he kept the old school bottled cokes.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 9:57 pm/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 8:55 pmWhat part of New York are you from?mountaineerman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 7:08 pmYou’ve both lost your mind!appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 7:03 pmAs great as that would be, I definitely know that that is not the announcement./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 4:17 pmWe said the hell with Pepsi, we are switching to Coke products.![]()

I was talking with a New Yorker who owns a chain of bagel shops in Charlotte about this very thing! He was shocked that my family is all from up there and I grew up on Coke EXCLUSIVELY. I told him my parents were smart and had good taste, hence why they moved away.
Manhattan, however, is almost exclusively Coke. The other boroughs are behind the times....

Hey, a girl can dream right?
It's gonna be interesting this year if that conference tries to force Grant of Rights on its members, I'm just saying that now.

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
seems like the last time we had one of these teasers it kind of fizzled out. I'm not second guessing anyone, but I'm not really wild about making the "big news" announcement every time we get a significant contribution. Of course, I guess that depends on how big, so it's just a matter of degree.

Someone in the athletic department is chuckling over all of our rampant speculation.

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
Why tease forthcoming news like this? Just wait until the actual announcement can be made.

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
The tease is fine if the actual news can match the hype. But we haven’t figured out that part, nor apparently the appropriate timing between teasing the news and actually announcing it.Lowcountry App wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 10:35 amWhy tease forthcoming news like this? Re: Big News Coming Soon?
In the modern world of social media the tease and the reveal shouldn't be more than 1-3 ish days apart. This isn't some widely anticipated summer blockbuster movie. Give the media department a day or two to hammer out a message/image to push. Which the second they were told about it they would be working on something. Other than that you just lose general interest after more than a few days especially when you try to over tease/hype too many medium to small "things."

Wrecking ball being taken to owens? This would fit the “big fizzle” mold by being expexted to occur by all any day now. (Today perhaps?).

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
I could see it being something with the field area. I was up there last week and Stadium entrance was mostly blocked off. Duck pond field was a wasteland of memories. The book store feels like its gets a little bigger every time I see it. The indoor track in Varsity still looks nice. The murals outside the wrestling locker rooms still looking good. Student Union and library are the same as always. That is all I really went in to.

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
I'm expecting news of a big donation, but I'd love to see something like the NFL does- a championship ring ceremony and free Luke Combs concert in the stadium before the ETSU game. Dream BIG

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
Not to be a spoil sport on speculation, but Moose has already given us the answer. Make an impact is the same fund that Mark Ricks gave to. The big news is almost without a doubt a large monetary donation north of a million. Now what we can speculate on is if that money will be used for anything. Maybe a legends "Moore-Satterfield" pavilion?

Re: Big News Coming Soon?
Not to be pedantic, but I think #makeanimpact is a campaign, not a fund. It's a marketing push for increased support for the athletics programs. https://appstatesports.com/news/2018/5/ ... paign.aspxComebackShack wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 8:33 amNot to be a spoil sport on speculation, but Moose has already given us the answer. So yes, this is very likely a gift announcement, but depending on how the athletics department uses the tag/term internally, I'd imagine it could really be anything tied to increasing ticket sales, boosting Yosef Club membership, etc.
