What about 2013?
What about 2013?
So unless I am reading everything wrong, I believe we are ineligible for the FCS championship in 2013. Is that correct?
If thats the case, that somewhat of a bummer considering the talent and youth we have coming back next season.
If we are ineligible next year, outside of pride, what exactly are we "playing" for? Always good to have a greater goal, and without eligibility we won't really have one.

Re: What about 2013?
Last time, everyone please read:
If we are to be full FBS by 2015, we will be FCS transitional in 2013 (no FCS playoffs). We will likewise be FBS transitional in 2014 with no bowl eligibility. We will, however, in 2014 have mostly an SBC schedule and then be full FBS in 2015 with both bowl eligibility and conference championship eligibility.
Yes, it sucks for the seniors, but it would suck for the next senior class if we delay.
We need to make this move now and get the 2 years done.

Not to question your credibility sixtoes but how do you know this for sure? I personally would love to hear this from an Athletic department official. Odu did it somehow .

Re: What about 2013?
paperwork date.
Because ODU filed late last summer they will be FCS transitional this fall same as us and full FBS same as us in 2015.
It is generally believed that SBC will need any FCS teams they invite to be full FBS in 2015 because of potential other departures. Thus, no option for us to delay really.

Re: What about 2013?
If I'm Scott Sattefield, this is how I spin it:
The playoffs start in Montana this year. Every game is a playoff game and our bowl game is in Athens, GA this year.
Don't expect to see our starters get benched to keep everyone healthy at UGA. Things could get REAL interesting.

Re: What about 2013?
Yup - I'd spin it that we need to beat the hell out of Montana so we can finally say we won in Missoula, beat the hell out of every SoCon team we play, so we can laugh at whoever claims to be SoCon Champs. We need to pound GSU to let 'em know we'll still have their number when we move up to SBC, and we need to pull out all the stops against UGA to let teams know that we won't be a cupcake once we have 22 more scholarships to play with!Gonzo wrote:If I'm Scott Sattefield, this is how I spin it:

Aside from that - you play for team, glory, the fans, for every player that made it possible to get us to this point, and your family. I trust Scott will have them ready to go.

What do we play for this year?
You play to win every game like every year, but this time it is to put everyone on notice in the FBS that we are coming and we are not going to be a pushover! Like mentioned above, you pull out all of the stops against UGA and play to "win the game" as coach Satt's twitter handle suggests. I would not be against trying to run up the score in every game we play this year as a statement

You play for your teammates, coaches, self, pride, fans, family, love of the game, and your school. Seems like there's a lot to play for.appskins wrote:So unless I am reading everything wrong, I believe we are ineligible for the FCS championship in 2013. Is that correct?

Re: What about 2013?
What do we play for? Same thing we did when we transitioned from NAIA to NCAA, PRIDE! We would have won the North State that year and I belive the school did buy a trophy saying that.

Simple. We play to win. We play to win the next game on the schedule, whatever the opponent.

That's a discredit to the players out their busting their tails. It is hardly "for nothing."biggie wrote:Just trying to get used to playing for nothing, 2 year transition of it.

Re: What about 2013?
then why not accept tentative and file late in hopes of keeping championship playoff hopes? i dont like sun belt as it stands, they are the worst league...and playing for a small time bowl isn't what i call stepping it up. if we can...then go out and play for a final championship. keep north dakota state from three-peating. we agree to disagree but this would be the last year we ever...EVER play for a national championship and i dont want to miss that opportunity. yep, im selfish...so what....maybe if theres a major team influx into the sb from va and parts in between then the confernce looks more enticing but as it stands, im not in favor with current teams. others will say, well, we can move after a few years...to where? all major conferences are locked up or looking for one or two more big named schools...and it aint app. yep, wet blanket alert and ill go to games but if you guys are thinking we'll be anywhere other than shreveport, motor city or mobile for a bowl, then you are smoking some of the best weed i never was able to lay my hands on.

Re: What about 2013?
Its meant to be nothing against the players, I'm sure they want to win. I look at it from a fan's point of view, cause that's what I am (or maybe used to be, fanatic doesn't describe my current feelings for this 'brand' of football).ASUMountaineer wrote:That's a discredit to the players out their busting their tails. To put it bluntly, that's some sorry ass whiny sh*t man and something I come to expect reading (and have in the Sun Belt threads) over at AppFan.biggie wrote:Just trying to get used to playing for nothing, 2 year transition of it.
Toughen up and enjoy the ride that your alma mater is on. These guys are going to be giving their All for Appalachian every Saturday and that wins will be just as sweet regardless.

Re: What about 2013?
I'd promote it for what it is- a kick a$$ farewell tour. Think about it, getting the "w" at Montana; redemption against the Citadel and Wofford; one last Furple and Western thrashing along with the retirement of the jug; a show of SBC solidarity after we sink the stink,... and how about one last SoCon title and a season ending number 1 national ranking? We need to show up and support the boys like never before during this transition, especially the upperclassmen who will not get to compete for a national championship or bowl game, but helped make it all possible.
