Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
I’m concerned with providing for my family and children. Who coaches App State football is on the list but waaaaaaaaay down there.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Everyone can feel how they want, but I would suggest that if you’re mad at Drink for possibly leaving after 1 year, your anger is misdirected.
If you’re mad (and I’m not saying you should be), be mad at the guy who hired him. If Gillin wanted someone who might at least consider staying more than a year or two, he’d have hired within the family.

How many coaches at top programs are from "within the family"? Legit question. I'm not sure why some are so concerned about that.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 9:48 pmEveryone can feel how they want, but I would suggest that if you’re mad at Drink for possibly leaving after 1 year, your anger is misdirected.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
I’m not taking a position on whether Gillin should or shouldn’t have gone that way. Ideally you’d have an obvious candidate who’s both in the family and has the requisite experience (see: Satt in 2012), but that person doesn’t always exist.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 10:01 pmHow many coaches at top programs are from "within the family"? I’m merely saying that everyone knew the score the moment Drink was hired, or at least they should have. He’s 36 years old with zero previous ties to Boone. The only way he was ever going to be here more than a couple years was if things didn’t go as well as planned.
Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Is this whole rumor based on the flight or substantial information? There’s literally another good experienced coach 55 minutes down the road the opposite way.

Unfortunately this is becoming my least favorite time of year. This will hurt recruiting as I am pretty sure recruits like to know who their coach is going to be.

I’m sorry, as relatively new AD I don’t see taking the risk of hiring Drinkwitz with less than a year as a HC and no recruiting results.

I don’t mind if he goes. But a lot of ex players/alumni were clamoring for “inside the family” for a reason. Boise is a good example of what we want to duplicate, and they have an “internal” funnel system for their coaching staff and it has worked well. App has a nice system of coaches and a lot of them have moved on to some nice jobs in CFB and NFL. Maybe DG reconsiders things IF Drink does indeed leave, and decides to starts a funnel from “within the family”. I care because it’s my almamater, but I won’t lose sleep over it.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Don't we have a DC with prior P5 Head Coaching Experience who could step into the Head Coaching job?
Also, I'm surprised that no one has thrown Shawn Elliott into the conversation. (Drink makes about $180K more per year)
For those who are worried about coaching turnover among recruits:
UNC- CHeat has a 68 year old head coach who may retire before his next recruiting class graduates
Wake Forest has a coach that has them bowling almost any year and is probably in line for a promotion at some point
NC State will most likely make a change in the next few years
ECU, if Scotty Montgomery turns their program around.....
UNCC Will Healy put them in a bowl the first year, brings good energy, how long is he going to stay in Charlotte
USC---Muschamp???
Clemson--Will Dabo replace Saban? (probably not)
There are always going to be question marks. IF, Drink did interview, it's probably a good move by his agent to take advantage of his current exposure. Any viable candidate should always take the interview and always get the offer. Then, make a decision.
and, if he goes.....he stayed at App longer than Ken Dorsey!
When, I walked out of the SuperDome last December, I knew that Drink was inheriting an awesome football team with the potential to be great.
When the Appalachian State Mountaineers take the field in 2020, whoever is coaching them (hopefully, Coach Drink) will be coaching an awesome football team that has the potential to be great!

I’m sure they are. When you are on top, everybody wants to see you fall. Our culture is strong enough that we won’t have too many valleys, and if we do, they won’t be deep. Our program still has a little bit more class than a bunch of beer spewing, chair destroying, backwoods App wannabes.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Roof would be a stop gap fill in.....hard pass on Elliott. Believe me, he wouldn’t be considered. Shawn Clark has P5 experience and is an “App guy”. We have some young up and coming guys on staff as well to be promoted to coordinator jobs.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 10:36 pmDon't we have a DC with prior P5 Head Coaching Experience who could step into the Head Coaching job? Also, I'm surprised that no one has thrown Shawn Elliott into the conversation. They lost Owens, their WR coach. Who could blame him? He was as lonely as the Maytag repair man. (Pardon to anyone under 50

I’m not mad, I would be incredibly disappointed with Drink and all the values he espouses. I get the money thing but less than a year? Commitment to integrity, class and academic excellence?EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 9:48 pmEveryone can feel how they want, but I would suggest that if you’re mad at Drink for possibly leaving after 1 year, your anger is misdirected.

Re: Drink interviews w/ Ark
Easy now, they had TWO receivers average over 1 reception per game this year. Their leading receivers caught 16 and 14 passes for the season. (Hennigan caught 8 passes in the first half last week)T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 11:34 pmBREAKING: Georgia Southern had a WR coach.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 10:43 pmThey lost Owens, their WR coach.
