Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
I’m asking if keeping DG & hiring SC as HC keeps DE in the black and gold for one more year? But, I think appstatealum answered my question.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 8:30 pmAre you asking if it will influence him or it did influence him to leave? I haven't seen anything saying for sure he is. Did I miss something?Apple@chin1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 8:09 pmAny chance that this hire and keeping DG has any influence on Darrynton’s decision to leave early?

From Twitter, maybe this will allay some fears:APPdiesel wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 5:22 pmI've never actually heard coach Clark speak. I'm sure he is bright (otherwise they wouldn't have hired him) but I have no concept of his football IQ. Does anyone have any clips of interviews?
Is Clark a recruiter? A player's coach? An offensive guru? Or is he kind of a Dabo Swinney "good 'ol boy"?
What kind of coach we’re getting in Shawn Clark? Here’s Clark on calling the plays in Nola last year: “I told the guys, I don’t want you to think just because I’m an O-line guy that we’re going to run all night. We’re going bombs over Baghdad, and we’re sandpapering that ass”
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

What about hiring Taylor Lamb as the quarterbacks coach, with the goal of making him the OC as he gains experience. He was one of the smartest, most savvy quarterbacks App has had in the mold of his coach. The guy was nothing but a winner during his career.

Don’t laugh but at one time I mentioned just maybe Bobby Lamb for on offensive position. He did have some good offenses at FurmsonASUTodd wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 2:17 amTaylor? That you? Lol. Jk.... Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
So, I'm thinking they did a straw man poll of the BOT and all were good with Clark and since he was already on staff none of the HR stuff had to happen which can slow things down. So they went ahead and leaked the news yesterday that he was going to be named HC before the formal BOT session tomorrow. That way the recruits (commits & potential commits) could rest easy knowing who the HMIC was going to be.
Also, I suspect Doug knew that Drink was going to be successful with the roster he had and that he'd be hired away pretty quickly and we'd harvest the buyout money. Clark, a Mountaineer-extraordinaire, was positioned on-deck as the "coach-in-waiting" ready to take the helm at a moment's notice.
I have always been impressed with Doug as an AD but I didn't know he was a chess grand-master as well...

Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
I wondered if Clark was head coach in waiting after he received the “assistant HC” title. I never heard of him as a candidate at this time last year, but I wonder if he interviewed.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:22 amSo, I'm thinking they did a straw man poll of the BOT and all were good with Clark and since he was already on staff none of the HR stuff had to happen which can slow things down. It wasn't too hard to figure out...Drink's agent is Jimmy Sexton, who was also Satt's agent. He doesn't represent guys for them to stay G5, he represents them so he can help them make millions. Whether it was this year, or the next, DG definitely knew he wasn't long for this job. Applaud him for having a nice buyout this time for sure.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:22 amSo, I'm thinking they did a straw man poll of the BOT and all were good with Clark and since he was already on staff none of the HR stuff had to happen which can slow things down. I'd love for Clark to be our Chris Petersen...take us to heights we haven't seen, and only leave when pried away by a legacy program 8-9 seasons from now...

Really excited for Clark, anxious to see who he promotes to DC and if he chooses to try and call plays or looks for an OC.

You aren't far off at all from the way it went down and why my friend, based on what I have been told.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:22 amSo, I'm thinking they did a straw man poll of the BOT and all were good with Clark and since he was already on staff none of the HR stuff had to happen which can slow things down. Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
Have I missed an announcement about Roof leaving? If he is here, Roof will be the DC. Since Drink has indicated that he is retaining the Missouri DC/DL coach, the odds of Roof following him seem to be dropping.beachneer40 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:02 amReally excited for Clark, anxious to see who he promotes to DC and if he chooses to try and call plays or looks for an OC.

This , well at least the first part , has been discussed previously .Taylor remains very close to the program.CharleyHustle wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 12:24 amWhat about hiring Taylor Lamb as the quarterbacks coach, with the goal of making him the OC as he gains experience.
