Re: Field Upgrades
Field turf has a typical lifespan of 8-10 years, depending on usage, weather, maintenance, and other factors. As KBS turf is the primary practice and playing field for our football team, as well as marching band and other events, we're likely due for replacement. I'd be interested to find out what "fine" in your eyes means before deeming the cost necessary or not.Yosef77 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 11:41 amI am a little confused about this. The turf we have was just put in a couple of years ago and I for one do not see any need for a new one. Can someone explain why we need to spend upwards of a million dollars on this? I have been down on the field and the turf seems fine. As a contributor to the athletic department I don't like seeing this much money spent unnecessarily.

Re: Field Upgrades
I usually go down on the field after games every year and I just don't recognize any (or very little) difference in the turf from the time it was first put down. I haven't noticed players slipping or seen rips in the turf or even a fading of the color. I was just curious as to what makes it worn out and in need of replacement?

Re: Field Upgrades
With the removal of the track they need to turf those areas as well the alteration of the hill. Makes sense to do it all at once I would think.Yosef77 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 12:17 pmI usually go down on the field after games every year and I just don't recognize any (or very little) difference in the turf from the time it was first put down. Re: Field Upgrades
2011 is correct! The old turf is right on schedule for replacement. In fact, if not for the NEZ project, it would have probably been replaced this year. It's old, weathered, tattered, faded, stained and ready for the shredder.Yosef77 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 11:41 amI am a little confused about this. Re: Field Upgrades
Keep in mind that the turf quality may be one of the most important things. Its the first and main thing ppl see for tv games. We want it to be fresh & impressive, even if that means replacing early

When the track disappears, are there plans to bring seating closer to the playing field?

I just hope they use the same turf guys they used for the baseball field. That looks good! I also am wondering if we could buy some of the old turf?

Re: Field Upgrades
I want it to say Appalachian State University, a constituent member of the University of North Carolina System. Home of the Mountaineers.
I would prefer the font be a sans serif font and given the amount of text I want at least 18 point but would settle for 12 point.
On each end the block "A" would look nice, though mixing serif and sans serif fonts is like mixing different liquors and not something I am fond of to be honest.

This is my very generic signature added to each post.

You can never go wrong Old English or Comic Sans...of course to placate the more artsy fartsy crowd, Zapf Dingbat is always a classic choice

If we're talking fonts, let's just go all Cam Newton and put it in wingding. Draw in the millennial crowd.

I know you just want a piece for yourself but they do sell used turf. I looked for some for a backyard project and had a company send me a package with about 50 samples.ComebackShack wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 1:27 pmI just hope they use the same turf guys they used for the baseball field. No, been discussed for years. The hill in the south end zone will be moved closer to the field but no seats.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 1:12 pmWhen the track disappears, are there plans to bring seating closer to the playing field?

Wow, that's almost like "we did we spend money get rid of the track"
Thought closer seats to the playing field would help create a better advantage. I know the slope of the current seating probably leaves very little option.

Re: Field Upgrades
I remember years ago, someone mentioned that moving the seats would likely result in losing capacity, as there are different codes now. We'd probable lose a row or more in each section. Could have all been bunk, though. It seems to me that if we went that route, the East lower deck could be moved in 5-10 yards, leave the pylons from the upper East deck in place and add a couple more, closer to the field, and expand the upper deck a few rows to get the lost seating back. All that probably costs way more money than we have at this point, though (and I didn't win the Mega Millions lotto the other night, so I can't pay for it).Black Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 2:48 pmI must have paid attention to it like the other repetitive threads.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 2:43 pmNo, been discussed for years.
