New Orleans bowl experience

Unread post by Seattleapp » Sun Dec 22, 2019 1:41 pm

The outcome was perfect. I’d like to hear some feedback on what people think about the overall experience of playing in a stadium that big.

It’s overkill obviously in terms of seating capacity but is a very nice venue and sort of a reward for both the team and fans to get to play and watch in a much nicer place than usual. I went to the DG bowl and that place was a depressing dump. Much smaller of course but a depressing environment. Quite honestly many of these games could be held in nicer high school fields around the country so far as seating capacity.

I agree. My only frustration and app had their usua amazing fan support but it was so big it sometimes lost the energy of a big game

I feel like when you’re in the middle of the crowd, there’s lots of noise and energy and it doesn’t really matter that the stadium is mostly empty. If you’re in the less-populated sections (I moved around a couple times last night), it can feel sterile. I watched part of the game from the front of the 2nd level and it felt like watching on TV. Great vantage point but missed being part of the crowd.

Also it’s always nice to have an actual seat rather than jockeying for position in overcrowded bleachers.

Anyone know the total attendance figure? Also, an estimate of App vs UAB fans?

As I watched the other games being played in the rain, I was glad we were in a dome.

There were at most 2,000 UAB fans there.

This was me and my wife's first experience with New Orleans and the NOLA Bowl, we loved every bit of it, the night life, the food, the culture. The crowd had lots of energy and the outcome of the game was perfect. I only have one thing that I can critique and part of it was my fault:

The tailgate

-at first I didn't buy tickets cause me and the wife were planning to spend lots of time in town.
-When I changed my mind a few days before the game the website said that it had been sold out.
-The day of the game we saw some alumni that said they were going and that the tailgate had been moved to the stadium due to the high demand and popularity and that they thought tickets would also be sold at the tailgate location.
-So me and the wife decided that afternoon to go try to get tickets.
-The signage around the stadium was extremely unclear on which entrance to use, one person said gate B, then arriving there we were told gate A, we ended up walking around the whole stadium before we found the right entrance.
-Once we made it to the entrance of the tailgate we learned that they were not selling any additional tickets.

Again this is just a small thing and its our fault for not buying tickets in advance, just wish the signage had of been clearer and there was an option of limited ticket sells at the tailgate especially knowing how popular it had become and had to be moved from its original location.
Everything else was amazing.

There were a ton of App fans. We dwarfed the UAB crowd.

I LOVE the Nola Bowl experience. Had a blast last year, had a blast this year. GO APPS!!

New Orleans is great because it is indoors. This time of year it is nice to see App in the heat. I wish we didn't have to lose to get the cure bowl. Orlando or anywhere in Florida would be great.
