At the risk of getting skewered over this comment, my hope is that we don't just make this an App State reunion. I love loyalty and people with a strong love for App, but I certainly want the best of the best we can get for open positions, not just what we are comfortable with. Not a swipe at Jones as I know he was liked and good, just hoping Clark is looking nationally for great coaches. Let the bash begin.

Not gonna bash. You make a good point. I am super happy about Dale Jones coming back. He’s proven himself to be a national caliber lb coach, so best if both worlds...a guy that’s really good and really wants to be here. Not gonna lie, I’m not real happy yo hear that we’re losing Ted Roof. I’m going to be a bit apprehensive if Jones will be taking his place as OC. Last time he held that job, it wasn’t exactly a success. But several years have passed and maybe he’s better prepared for the job. In the end, all we can do is trust that Coach Clark will assemble a staff that will help him succeed.

is this confirmed or announced? Roof is leaving, or not being retained?

Sorry. I should have written that more carefully. Nothing confirmed. Just what I’ve seen online from a couple of sources. I have no solid info.

I agree with this point but I don’t take Jones coming back to suggest otherwise, as long as it’s not as DC. I would like to see a couple more “App guys” on staff, especially with DJ leaving. But I also hope to see an influx of new viewpoints too.

That's a concern for me too. The Football Scoop post said Jones will return in an elevated role. If DC role, I dont love it as much either.

allright... it’s just that I have heard so many different takes on Roof...players like him, don’t like him, he wants to stay, he wants to go, Drink wanted him now doesnt want him, he wants to plant roots, wants to coach his son, he is not the true defense game planner “after he moved to the box” on and on...I like what was mentioned above, him and Dale coaching the LB’s together...not sure about Dale being DC since that looked out of sync the 1st time around...

As long as Gas stays and has a lot of power and say on the defense I'm fine with keeping Roof and bringing back Jones. Jones is a very good LB coach. As long as he is here for that then we will be fine. Dale is a good man and someone I enjoy talking to but he definitely needs to be LB coach and not the DC.

Wasn’t it already announced that Roof was going to stay on this year in the same role? Bring Jones back as AHC/LB the. Have Gas as CoDC/play calling.
