App State night at the Canes
App State night at the Canes
Any other Mountaineers headed to PNC tonight for App State College Colors Night? Huge game in the Metro against the Rangers

Gotta wonder how much this costs the athletics department with no direct ROI. Sure it's branding, but at what cost? No way this is cheap, not to mention all the travel involved for the groups they bring. Feels like a bigger moneypit than that crawdad game they play each year.
Not sure that paying money to the Canes is the best way to support our Mountaineers...

It’s just a night the Canes do for all N.C. universities. Tickets come with an App State Hurricanes hat. I’m not sure it cost App State a thing.

There’s nothing bad that comes out of this night for App, except it’s the Hurricanes.

What do you think these expenses are? What groups do you think the AD is bringing? I know Satt and some YC staff were there a couple years ago, but that's no huge cost (plus stuff like that is part of their jobs) and even that's not an every-year thing.BooneKarate wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 10:38 amGotta wonder how much this costs the athletics department with no direct ROI. As the OP said, the "College Colors" nights are a promotion the Canes have run for years. Used to be just the ACC schools plus ECU, but they've expanded it to us and others. It's just a way for the Canes to try and draw in fans, like any other promotion.
The Triangle alumni group gets discounted group seating, but there's no expense there; anyone can get that through Canes group sales. The tailgate is sponsored by AMB.
As far as whether it's "the best way to support our Mountaineers," everyone can decide that for themselves, but I think that partially misses the point. There are lots of App alumni in the Triangle, and I'm sure many of them are fans of both App and the Canes (and not necessarily in that order for everyone). So getting discount hockey tickets while tailgating and sitting with fellow Apps is a win-win for many of us, plus a good way for the alumni group to get people involved.

Free AMB, free hats, tons of app fans, even an App-State chant. Nothing but good stuff here. I’ll be sporting this App/Canes hat in the players tunnel at the end of the second intermission.

It’s really to bad we can’t ever beat them at home. No wonder so many show up, they always get to go home happy. Canes have got to figure out a way to win these big Friday, Saturday night games at home to really grow that fan base. Also, a good net minder would help.

There’s a zamboni driver in Toronto that looks promising (kidding, but what a great memory).AppOrange wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:51 pmIt’s really to bad we can’t ever beat them at home. It was definitely cool to see Yosef sound the alarm before the 3rd.
App had a strong contingent out for the game, definitely outnumbering UNC who was the other college colors school for the night.

Re: App State night at the Canes
The Atlanta Braves have done this for the last few seasons as well. I went on Mississippi State night with some relatives. It's a lot of fun. I know Atlanta isn't as big of a hub for App alumni like the Triangle, but I would love to go to App State night at Truist Park. They did Kennesaw State last year and the hat would've been perfect for App if the logo on the side had been an A instead of a KS.
