I didn't like the idea of this game in the Panthers stadium when it was announced simply because I would rather watch App at the Rock if I am going to have to travel from Florida to NC. Now, I really don't like this idea. I would be surprised if the stadium is anywhere close to capacity, especially if ECU has another crap year next year with nothing to look forward to the next season. No way those Pirates are going to want to come to Charlotte to see App kick their butts, especially on a Thursday night. We should just play this game at the Rock. I am still really disappointed in the contract that we signed that didn't appropriately protect our interests (from what I have been informed of to this point in time). The other teams that Clemson and UGA are paying get million plus dollar buyouts and we get moved to Thursday night. Yeah, it sure sounds like we screwed that contract negotiations up a bit.
Both schools have a lot of fans in and around Charlotte. The attendance will have a lot to do with how each team does in 2020. I expect the game to be well attended. We should play all the N.C. schools we can, in any stadium we can get. I’m a big fan of this game.
Depends on what you mean by "well attended." It's a big stadium of course. You can expect the TV shots of the stands to be aimed low.
If we can keep thing rolling and ECU can improve I’m thinking 50 to 60 thousand. That said the game will need to be advertised well. There are many many folks who would go to this game who have no clue it’s scheduled.
You may be right, but 60 thousand seems far fetched to me for a Thursday night with casual fans to be jaded with a huge P-5 three days later in the sae venue.

If we hit anywhere close to 60k I will be very impressed. This made me wonder what is our largest attendance in any game against a non P-5 team was. Quick check showed that we got a bit over 31k against Elon at the Rock in 2010. I can't think of an away non P-5 that drew more than that (checked ECU game in 09 and only had a 27k). We should easily beat that 31k mark, just don't know if we will almost double it in Charlotte.

I don't think it will sell-out, but 50,000 would be a great number for a Thursday night. Hopefully both teams have a great 2020 season and this game will actually mean something!

Guys 40k on a Thursday would be a homerun.

ECUs worst attended home game in 2019 was their last game, 27000. That was after a horrible season. They had 47,000 for NCSU. I’m thinking each school could bring 25000.

The lower level, club, and suites at BofA come in at just under 40K seats. If those are packed to the gills on a Thursday night in Charlotte, just as many are headed out of town to the beach or mountains or elsewhere for the long Labor Day weekend, then I'll be completely happy...especially when combined with the pending ticket prices and no doubt jacked uptown room rental rates beginning that evening. If they have to open up the lower rows of the upper deck sidelines, then I'll be happily surprised.

It was also 220 degrees Fahrenheit and a noon kick-off in 2009. Several fans left that game in ambulances.

I would be surprised if the initial plan is to offer seats in the upper level.

Agree with this, and honestly I'm not sure it would have been much more than that on a Saturday. Maybe 45-50K.

Now if they offer some giveaways, discounts etc. to get butts in the seats, then who knows. But I don't get the impression they've done that for past kickoff games in Charlotte.

Keep in mind that those are announced/ticket sold numbers, not actual scanned/butts in seats numbers. ECU's impressive home attendance has waned the last few years as the team as has struggled. Their actual attendance could be anywhere from 60% to 80% of what they announced. I see 30k to 40k attending the game. 40k+ for a neutral site G5 weekday game would be damn impressive.

You're absolutely correct about ECU's announced vs actual. It's a shame what's happened to their program since letting go of Ruff. I'll be happy with anything above our home average in Charlotte, especially with the bump to Thursday. I'm leaning more towards 30k for a Thursday night kickoff and would be ecstatic with 40k. For a Saturday game, I was thinking ~45k.

My hope for the game is prime time on tv garnering 1m+ viewers with at least 35-40k in the stands.

Had the misfortune of attending both 2009 and 2012 games. Stadium was full at kickoff both times, 27K very inaccurate. Temp was mid-80's in 2009. 2012 was when it was sweltering in the mid-90's and people were dropping like flies.

UGA is paying San Jose St. $1.8 mil to get out of their contract so they can play Clemson. San Jose turned around and booked game with USC for $1.1 mil. so they made a cool $2.9 mil by not going to Athens.

I slept for all of 30-minutes Friday night before the 2009 game. Perhaps that is why my memory of the heat being unbearable is burned.

That game was a cluster * of a memory for me as well. As if that damn heat and the resulting burn weren't enough, it was the weekend (not the game) that put the ! point on what a few days later would become the start of a way too long and drawn out divorce process. Needless to say, @ ECU in 2009 is not a game I care to recall for many reasons. It all worked out for the best though, for App State FB and for me, and I'm looking forward to making MUCH better memories all the way around our next game weekend in Pitt County!

My worst memory was losing my dorm key the night before and the heat, of course; seems quite trivial compared to what you went through!

I'm hopeful that both teams being on equal footing will push the Greenville match-up to a night kick-off rather than noon, again.

If we have to play them at noon in September again at their place, they should have to play us on a snowy night in October at ours.
